President Donald Trump Tuesday said he was the person who canceled the deal to pass coronavirus legislation in excess of $2 trillion after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi included "a lot of things" that had nothing to do with people who have been put out of work because of closures over the spreading coronavirus epidemic.

"I canceled the deal," he said in a Fox News virtual town hall (https://video.foxnews.com/v/6144402086001). "I said, 'I'm not going to send that deal.' Nancy Pelosi came and put a lot of things in the deal that had nothing to do with the workers, that has to do with an agenda they've been trying to get passed for ten years."
Trump said he told Vice President Mike Pence and several other key Republicans that there was "no way" he would sign the deal.

"We almost had a deal the day before," said Trump about an agreement between the Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.
"It was really a good, solid deal," said Trump. "All (of a) sudden they start throwing all the little green new deal stuff in. The board rooms, what they look like. 'We want clean energy, we want all this stuff. Let's stop drilling oil.' They had things that were terrible. Windmills all over the place, all sorts of credits for windmills. To kill the breeze and ruin the real estate, right? A lot of problems."

rockgremlin

He's gonna be vilified further for vetoing the deal, but it was absolutely the right thing to do.

Stupid Pelosi saw this pandemic as an opportunity to bend Trump over a barrel -- "Approve all of these liberal agenda items or else thousands of people will continue to suffer and languish under this global virus." Nice try.

I guess you can't blame her for trying because this was truly a golden opportunity. Unfortunately she's playing chicken with a dude that has no steering wheel.

Giving the police the power to detain anyone, anytime for anything. "Where do you live? Where you going? Get you ass back home". Yeah, right. I'm all for the guys in blue, but this crap is taking a big chunk out or our personal freedom. It's like putting you in a cage. People started demanding answers.

The Mayor got his ass spanked real good today. That dude was stuttering. Not two hours into this morning and they'd made a million amendments to it. Word was they were overwhelmed, and have been all day. So it's basically toothless...they just don't want people gathering in crowds and this loudmouth came out all hot and heavy. There's no "enforcement" going to happen. That guy just made a complete fool out of himself.

With all due respect for the old and feeble, I'd rather they take their chances than give up that much freedom. They only time it should get anywhere near that would be a time of heavy war.

I see there was supposed to be a $999 fine applicable, as of yesterday. There must be something in state law making a $1000 fine a threshold of some sort, so they snuck under that.

I stil find the whole "stay at home" order vs. the policy change of not arresting people for certain crimes and releasing criminals from prison early to limit probability of spreading the Chinese Hunan virus amongst inmates a contradiction in policy and quite ironic. What they are essentially saying is that shoplifting is less of a crime than leaving my house - albeit in order to shop lift, I would have to.....leave my house.

If a cop catches me away from my house, how is that scenario going to play out?

Cop: Sir, you are violating the stay at home order. You need to return to your home.
Me: What are you going to do if I don't return home?
Cop: I'm going to give you a ticket for violating the order.
Me: OK. GIve me the ticket.
Cop: What is your name?
Me: Mickey Mouse.
Cop: If you don't give me you're real name....
Me: You're going to what?
Cop: I'll have to arrest you.
Me: See that guy over there looting that store. Are you going to arrest him too?
Cop: No. Not for looting. But, I will direct him to return home, when I am done with you.
Me: Why?
Cop: Because we've had a change in policy to not arrest people for minor offenses.
Me: Why?
Cop: Because we are trying to limit the number of people we put in carceration to reduce risk of spreading disease.
Me: But you just told me you are going to arrest me if I don't give you my real name. What's a worse crime: Looting, or not telling a cop their name?
Cop:
Me:
Cop: Give me your name so I can give a ticket.
Me: :flipa:

The reports are that the truckers are getting supplies to the stores. People are stocking the shelves all night and letting old people shop first. Carnival Cruise line told Trump “We can match those big Navy Hospital ships with some fully staffed cruise ships” GM said hold our cars and watch this; we can make those ventilators where we were making cars starting next week. Women and children are making homemade masks and handing out snacks to truckers. Restaurants and schools said, We’ve got kitchens and staff; we can feed kids.” Churches are holding on-line services and taking care of their members and community. NBA basketball players said, “Hold our basketballs while we write checks to pay the arena staff.” Construction companies said, “Here are some masks for the medical staff and doctors”. Breweries are making sanitizer out of the left-over ingredients. We thought we couldn’t live without Baseball, NASCAR, NBA or going to the beach, restaurants or a bar. Instead, we’re trying to keep those businesses open by ordering take-out.

You’ve got two Democrat Governors getting told “We will make it happen” by a Republican President who has fought with them for three and half years. While the media keeps repeating itself, “We are a nation divided.”

What communist China didn't count on was America saying "Hey, hold my beer and watch this."

I think a Japanese Admiral in the middle of the Pacific said it best in 1941, "I think we have awakened a sleeping giant."

Give us a few more weeks (maybe months) and we will be doing much better! And stop listening to the hysterical media!!

DETAILS OF THE CORONAVIRUS AID BILL
by Kevin Ryan

Democrats have finally agreed to end their filibuster of the coronavirus aid bill in the Senate, with word of an agreement coming shortly after midnight. The unprecedented $2 trillion economic rescue package aims to shield the U.S. economy from the worst consequences of the coronavirus pandemic. It includes:

• Direct payments of $1,200 per American adult making $75,000 or less (or couples making $150k or less). People who make between $75k and $99k will receive smaller amounts. Those making $99k or above (or $198k or above for married couples) will not receive a check. The income used to determine how much people receive will be based on their 2018 taxes. Officials hope the checks could go out as soon as early April.

• Families will also receive an additional $500 per child.

• A $130 billion cash infusion for hospitals expecting a flood of COVID-19 patients, and billions of dollars of additional relief to be delivered through the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the lead federal disaster agency.

• $150 billion directly to state and local governments dealing with the outbreak

• $500 billion for guaranteed, subsidized loans to larger industries, including the airlines.

• A $367 billion program for small businesses to keep making payroll while workers are forced to stay home.

• Four months of unemployment benefits for furloughed workers plus an additional $600 per week. Gig workers like Uber drivers will be covered by unemployment for the first time.

• Companies would be able to defer payment of the 6.2% Social Security payroll tax.

“This is a wartime level of investment into our nation,” said Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) in the early hours of Wednesday after the two sides had reached a deal. “The men and women of the greatest country on Earth are going to defeat this coronavirus and reclaim our future. And the Senate is going to make sure they have the ammunition they need to do it,” he said.

Stocks rose sharply in America and around the world Tuesday in anticipation of the infusion of aid into the U.S. economy.

A vote is expected today.

So my observation is this... A couple of days ago, we were going to get 2 rounds of checks, not one, and it was all going to cost just 1 trillion dollars. Now, it's just one round of checks for the people, and the cost has doubled.

Now, I'm not saying I want 2 checks. Just pointing out the stupidity of the whole situation. Why in the world would anyone in the world want these immature and irresponsible people running health care or any other part of their lives. When they talk, you can basically count on the cost of anything they want being double what they tell you, and you're going to see only half the benefit from it.

A lot of small business owners in this same boat, that through their compassion trying to keep their staff employed and giving them a paycheck as much as possible, while at the same time bleeding through the nose paying all of the standard costs of running a business, but with little to no income coming in - but they don't get a check because they may too much $ 2 yrs ago. Not that a $1k+ check will make much of a difference anyway.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Delays Coronavirus Relief Bill Vote After Not CommittingSpeaker of the House Nancy Pelosi delayed the passage of the Senate’s coronavirus relief package on Wednesday, as the House was in session for nearly three minutes and then adjourned until Thursday.
“House Democrats will now review the final provisions and legislative text of the agreement to determine a course of action,” Pelosi said about the nearly $2 trillion emergency relief deal which will be voted on Wednesday afternoon in the Senate after a long night of negotiations. Rep. "Our goal is to get our caucus all of the information that they need and to get to unanimous consent or voice vote by tomorrow, certainly by Friday," Clark, the vice chairwoman of the House Democratic Caucus, told MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell.

To answer your question NO--I expect a legislative body to go to work in time of crisis.

If theres something in the proposal the dems want to change, debate it, talk about it, IN THE HOUSE.

Then make your changes and pass them along, in a very fast and orderly process.

Let the other side(senate)go over it and change what they need.

All then agree--passes in both chambers--President signs.

THIS IS NOT HAPPENING WHEN PIGLOSI RUNS THE HOUSE FOR 115 SECONDS IN TIME OF CRISIS.

Doing nothing in a time of National crisis is not acceptable

does that clear it up for you?

I even send you a pic if that helps

CA Gun Stores Staying Open Despite “Non-Essential” Classification
Gun stores in San Diego County are seeing record sales during the coronavirus outbreak, but county officials say the stores should not be open under Gov. Gavin Newsom’s stay-at-home order. They say gun stores are not included in the list of “essential businesses.”
“We consulted with our county counsel. It is not our belief that gun stores are essential businesses, and they should not be open in the county of San Diego,” said County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher on Sunday.

Would I say what (?) on what kind of board in a Muslim country? (a surf board? a FTSE100 board?)

Doug, your question raises more questions!

CA city to use Chinese night-vision drones banned by US Army to enforce coronavirus lockdown
Police in Chula Vista, Calif. plan to use Chinese-made aerial drones to surveil and enforce the state’s coronavirus “stay at home” orders, and to disperse crowds violating the orders.
The police department has doubled its drone fleet, adding two additional DJI drones to help with its lockdown enforcement efforts, the Washington Examiner reported (https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/california-police-to-use-chinese-made-patrol-drones-with-night-vision-cameras-during-coronavirus-lockdown). U.S. officials have warned against using Chinese drones domestically.

Chula Vista’s drones would reportedly be outfitted with night-vision and loudspeakers.

Listening to the press conference at the White House and it sounds like they will be opening pieces of the country back up before too long. They want to get people back to work where they can. March 16th was when the 15 days started. New York will be locked up for a while. My wife's brother manages a Home Depot and he said people are swarming his store. Even with limited hours he is seeing record sales. He said people are getting projects done while they, “work from home” and using it as an extended vacation.

That said, Idaho is issuing a stay-at-home order starting today for 21 days. They are going a little heavy handed after seeing a recent spike in cases, which is currently at 123 and no deaths to this point.

So now the grocery stores and Home Depot, Loews are only letting so many people in at a time. I just finished a big job and I'm gonna get the heck out of here. Load up my truck with camping gear and my bikes and boogie out. Spend the next two weeks hangin' in the boonies and living out of my cooler.

I wonder if there'll be a lot of other people out boondocking. Reckon I'll find out.

I might go this weekend for 1 or 2 nights. Are you staying in state? Probably too much snow in the backcountry to go anywhere interesting. I like the Great Sand Dunes if you go south. Also the NRA Whittington Center in northern NM allows camping. Get some shooting in, too. I wonder if they're open.

Wyatt was a fellow student with me in the MLS program. He went on to become a doctor and served in the military. He was over in Hawaii now he is in Texas. He protects the name of his doctor friend because of HIPPA. So I am sorry for the friend of a friend said but...it is the best I can do in the medical field. Just like I can't say how many positives we have or what is specifically is going on in my hospital.

I don't give a shit what side of the coin people are on politically. Neither side has handled this crisis well least of all Trump who wants to have packed churches on Easter Sunday...for all of you Trump lovers you do that. Follow your beloved Emperorin new clothes. I sincerely wish someone with a shred of decency, intelligence, and qualifications would actually run for president.

The only people handling this epidemic well are the doctors and nurses on the frontlines in the hospitals working their asses off. While the rest of Americans whine about staying at home and how it is going to effect the economy. If you are bitching about ANY of it you are part of the problem.

It isn't about how many people are going to be infected by the virus or the rate of death. There will be death. It is a given. The problem is the sheer numbers that end up requiring hospital care and the fact that those out actually physically fighting this are ill equipped and under prepared and risking their lives and the lives of their families at home IF they choose to go home during their battle. Imagine that for one minute. Instead of sheltering in place in the comfort of your own home. You are stuck working ungodly number of hours taking care of sick humans.

You can't leave the hospital for three weeks or more to see your family because what if you take it home to them? What if you never make it home? That isn't the current state here in Utah but it is in the hot spots.

The one thing all of us have control over the one thing we can all do is stop bitching and blaming, sit tight at home, stop panicking and stop spreading your dam cooties. Give those actually dealing with it a fighting chance.

If you have access to supplies the hospitals need be prepared to give them up. Because god only knows they need them more than all the selfish pricks who bought them up. And pray we don't become a hot spot.

I liked all the memes in the beginning that were more specifically about the virus and panic. But the political ones lately are lacking in humor. And I am not a Democrat or a liberal. ****ing hate politics because when it really matters all people do is find fault and work on their own agendas. When what we really need to do is put our differences aside and fight together.

Rumor has that this latest package deal blocks certain funding or transition of funds for the border wall. Meanwhile, municipalities across the country (many of which heavilly Democatic led) are initiating stay at home mandates. Just so we're clear - the Dems are mandating residents stay home to stop the spread of Chinese Wuhan Virus, while at the same time stopping work on the wall to allow migrants to pass into our country at will. You can't make up this level of stupidity.

Recovered coronavirus patient's message to ICU staff goes viral: 'You are all rockstars'

“This window has been the most impactful window in my life,” he said. “On days when I watched you work hard to keep me and others alive, unable to thank you for the time that you poured into me – and although I will probably never get the chance to pour that same love and support into you, I want you to know that I think you are all rockstars.”

“I watched some of you have good nights and some bad nights, but what was consistent every night was that you care for people.”

“Today I leave this ICU a changed person, hopefully for the better, not only because of your medical healing and God’s direction and guidance, but with the fact of knowing that there are such wonderful people dedicated to the care and concern of others. God bless each of you.”

No. I'll likely be around Lake Powell, Cedar Mesa. I'd rather ride my bikes down dirt roads all day than hang around here watching everything be weird. Kinda like a trial run for the big one...I'm gonna go out and get the lay of the land.

FWIW - If you are "on business" you are pretty much free to do as you please, and that includes stay in motels and campsites in closed areas.... and since I run Climb-Utah.com as a business I'm pretty much free to do as I please. I believe Bogley is also setup as a business, but I'm not positive about that....

So if you want a job with Climb-utah hit me up as I'm also interested in a stringer.... or you can also claim to be a freelance journalism stringer.

Also my son-in-law is a trucker and they are pretty much treated like angels from heaven delivering supplies at the moment and have few restrictions.

Anyhoo.... just thought I'd toss that out there in case you need an alibi.....

Gallup: Trump Approval Up 5 Points to 49%, His Handling of COVID-19 at 60% Approval

(CNSNews.com) -- Despite the challenges caused by the coronavirus, most importantly the loss of American lives, President Donald Trump's job approval rating among Americans has risen five points since earlier this month to 49%.
In addition, 60% of Americans approve of his handling of the coronavirus. Trump's job approval is also "higher among independents [and] Democrats," reported Gallup (https://news.gallup.com/poll/298313/president-trump-job-approval-rating.aspx) on March 24.

https://www.latimes.com/science/story/2020-03-22/coronavirus-outbreak-nobel-laureatePositive news is good. I do hope this thing dies down.

I don't think the whole thing is doom and gloom. I don't think this will kill nearly the numbers that flu does, at least I hope it doesn't. I just am in awe of how it overwhelms the hospitals in the hot spots.

And I posted the article about the health worker because she was 48, no known underlying health issues, AND her hospital wasn't treating any Covid-19 patients. [emoji15] One minute she is fine and now she is dead.

Do I think that is going to happen to everyone...no. I think she is an outlier. A very fascinating outlier.

Why do some get infected and mildly uncomfortable and others hit so hard? I will say it again I am utterly fascinated by this pandemic. You should be in a lab when we get anything out of the ordinary...we get excited. It is sick and wrong we know that but we can't help it. One side is all feels for the patient and family involved in a pending bad diagnosis and the other side is oh dam this is really cool and digs up more information.

And I have brought good news to this discussion.

Our country has been through tough times before, but this is one of the worse in my lifetime, next to 911. Plenty of debate could go on comparing the two. Both of these being on American soil of course hits everyone harder and is being referred to as a war.

Our parents and grandparents went through much tougher times perhaps. For example some of us might have family who were in the Battle of Iwo Jima. We attended the 100th birthday of my wife's grandpa a few months back and he has many haunting memories about that experience.

It all reminds me of a song and video from one of my favorite bands. The song was written about the guitarists father and his experiences during and after the Vietnam War. His father is interviewed and shown in the video.

In the liner notes of 1999's Music Bank box set collection, Jerry Cantrell said of the song:
It was the start of the healing process between my Dad and I from all that damage that Vietnam (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vietnam_War) caused. This was all my perception of his experiences out there. The first time I ever heard him talk about it was when we made the video and he did a 45-minute interview with Mark Pellington (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Pellington) and I was amazed he did it. He was totally cool, totally calm, accepted it all and had a good time doing it. It even brought him to the point of tears. It was beautiful. He said it was a weird experience, a sad experience and he hoped that nobody else had to go through it.

In a 1992 interview with Guitar for the Practicing Musician (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guitar_for_the_Practicing_Musician) magazine, in response to the question "Do you feel you communicated with [your father] with this song?", Cantrell responded:
Yeah. He's heard this song. He's only seen us play once, and I played this song for him when we were in this club opening for Iggy Pop. I'll never forget it. He was standing in the back and he heard all the words and stuff. Of course, I was never in Vietnam and he won't talk about it, but when I wrote this it felt right...like these were things he might have felt or thought. And I remember when we played it he was back by the soundboard and I could see him. He was back there with his big gray Stetson and his cowboy boots — he's a total Oklahoma man — and at the end, he took his hat off and just held it in the air. And he was crying the whole time. This song means a lot to me. A lot.

Cantrell said of the song in a 2006 interview with Team Rock:
That experience in Vietnam changed him [his father] forever, and it certainly had an effect on our family, so I guess it was a defining moment in my life, too. He didn’t walk out on us. We left him. It was an environment that wasn’t good for anyone, so we took off to live with my grandmother in Washington, and that’s where I went to school. I didn’t have a lot of my father around, but I started thinking about him a lot during that period. I certainly had resentments, as any young person does in a situation where a parent isn’t around or a family is split. But on Rooster, I was trying to think about his side of it – what he might have gone through. To be honest, I didn’t really sit down intending to do any of that; it just kinda came out. But that’s the great thing about music – sometimes it can reach deeper than you ever would in a conversation with anybody. It’s more of a forum to dig deeper. It felt like a major achievement for me as a young writer. When I first played it to my father, I asked him if I’d got close to where he might have been emotionally or mentally in that situation. And he told me: ‘You got too close – you hit it on the head'. It meant a lot to him that I wrote it. It brought us closer. It was good for me in the long-run and it was good for him, too.

It was recommended that when washing our hands we sing "Happy Birthday to You" twice so that our hand washing time meets the recommend wash time to kill germs. So occasionally I do that. I always sing "Happy Birthday" to my mom who passed away a year and a half ago. She lived during the depression as a small child and remembered well WWII. I grew up being told to "toughen up" and that I needed to have a "thicker skin" on many occasions. Don't get me wrong, she was the best mom ever, but also tough as nails. She also lived in constant pain due to an auto accident that occurred when I was in 5th grade. Singing to my mom while washing my hands reminds me to be tough, like her and the others of the "greatest generation."

The big discussion now is are we going to be ready to ease restrictions and get back to work by Easter? Everybody is bitching and moaning about it and I think it’s too far out to decide at this point, but what does your gut tell you? Do you have any data to back this up? Maybe portions of the country will open up?

Easter Sunday is 16 days away...

Easter Sunday is 16 days away...No we are not ready to be back to work by Easter.

My gut says it took China 2 1/2 months to tamp the virus down by making everyone in the Hubei Province stay home. But Americans are impatient and won't stand to shelter in place for that long and the biggest share of them are not prepared to financially wait this out.

Obviously South Korea took the first SARS outbreak to heart and prepared. The US has been caught with their pants down. We need the correct testing to quarantine only those that are positive and anyone they have come in contact with.

There is no win win in this situation. There is no win lose...

I hope we learn from this and prepare for the next time. That is my gut feeling.

Sadly, what we need and what the average American can afford are two completely different things.

We need a solid two month quarantine. But since most Americans live check to check we cannot afford to quarantine for that long. What I'd like to see happen is have SOME parts of the country open in 16 days. Keep the hardest hit areas like New York, California, and Washington on lockdown at least until mid May.

Better yet, keep California on lockdown permanently...

I just hope as a nation we are not as stupid as we were after 9-11 when Americans foolishly signed away a large amout of their freedoms and liberties for a false sense of security.

American rights and liberties were never grounded or based in saving lives or false security.

I dunno if I believe this. I’m skeptical. It seems staged...

I have a good friend who is a staunch former member. I mean he is just absolutely livid towards the church and it’s members. He says he doesn’t “hate the members” but i question that because I saw him twice draw on the back of his Jeep with the windshield marker things “Mormons Are the best. Everyone else that are not Mormons will go straight to hell!” And “Pray for Prop 8 to pass! Otherwise God said my pregnant wife would die!” Uh...? What?!?

I never asked him why he wrote those things but my assumption is that he plays both sides. He’s an instigator. The reddit forum, ex-Mormons, has a bunch of em. The irony is that they hate the culture of the church but then they create the situation themselves! It reminds me of the the Subway sandwich store manager who would tell her employees what to do in the case of a armored robbery, and come to find out like two weeks later the manager held up her own store as a “lesson” to the employees. Bizarre.

Anyway, basically he’s a former Mormon but tries to get ex-members (and current members) riled up on whatever the church does or doesn’t do, but does it as if he is an active member. They accuse Joseph Smith of deception but they themselves are the deceptors. Hypocritical.

So yea, Sure, it *could* be real...but with with the 24/7 danger alerts out there on the virus I am highly skeptical that an active member would call this an “angel”. If I actually met the lady or guy who wrote those words, then sure I’ll change my tune then.

I'm hearing about items in this relief bill today.

Both d's and r's to blame.

this is not a relief bill, it turned into a loaded up pork sandwich topped with shit, not too palatable.

I'd veto it and give both sides one day to make it a clean aid bill.

politicians are scum.

If I was Trump

I'd go on tv in primetime tonight and read the pork, item by item and say this isn't the time, if there ever was to load up legislation with pork.

Bring me a clean relief bill--TOMORROW.

According to the study, 100% of coronavirus cases have affected men and women and not a single other gender.

Those crazy PAC 12 guys

Stanford medical professors: COVID-19 death toll estimates may be 'orders of magnitude' too high

Stanford medical professors: COVID-19 death toll estimates may be 'orders of magnitude' too high

They believe the projections are 'deeply flawed'

"Fear of Covid-19 is based on its high estimated case fatality rate — 2% to 4% of people with confirmed Covid-19 have died, according to the World Health Organization and others," wrote Bendavid and Bhattacharya. "So if 100 million Americans ultimately get the disease, 2 million to 4 million could die. We believe that estimate is deeply flawed. The true fatality rate is the portion of those infected who die, not the deaths from identified positive cases."

How did they predict this?

The two professors argue that the best evidence of the coronavirus death rate being significantly lower than what is being reported may lie in the Italian town of Vò. On March 6, the town's 3,300 residents were tested. Of these, 90 tests came back positive, indicating a prevalence of 2.7% of the population having the virus.
If one were to apply this to the entire province where the town is located, which has a population of 955,000, it would mean there were actually 26,000 infections at the time, and not just the 198 that were officially confirmed. This would be 130 times greater than the number of reported cases. Since Italy's case fatality rate of 8% is estimated using the confirmed cases, Bendavid and Bhattacharya write, "the real fatality rate [of the virus] could in fact be closer to 0.06%."

I've been trying to follow the New York situation for a week or so to get educated.

Most of what I've seen by actual photos and articles is included in this compilation of events.

Cuomo Deserves No Plaudits for His Handling of Crisis (https://amgreatness.com/2020/03/26/cuomo-deserves-no-plaudits-for-his-handling-of-crisis/)

Cuomo this week again bragged about his state’s open arms, which resulted in New York’s current crisis. The reason New York now has so many more cases of coronavirus, even more than California, is “because we welcome people from across the globe,” he said (https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2020/03/25/andrew-cuomo-ny-has-15-times-coronavirus-cases-of-ca-because-we-welcome-people/) on March 25. “We have people coming here, we have people who came here from China, who came here from Italy, who came here from all across the globe.”

And the outcry about ventilators? State officials were informed several years ago that the stockpile of ventilators was woefully inadequate to handle a severe pandemic. But instead of preparing for a looming crisis and buying 16,000 ventilators, the state’s health commissioner formed a task force to develop a system to ration the life-saving equipment. The task force “came up with rules that will be imposed when ventilators run short,” the New York Post reported (https://nypost.com/2020/03/19/we-didnt-have-to-have-ventilator-shortage-leaders-chose-not-to-prep-for-pandemic/) last week. “*Patients assigned a red code will have highest access, and other *patients will be assigned green, yellow or blue (the worst), *depending on a ‘triage officer’s’ decision.”
Now that Cuomo’s rationing plan is backfiring and his lack of preparation is exposed, he’s blaming Washington for his state’s self-induced emergency.

New York wasn't the only one warned....

The federal government also has a cache of ventilators in the CDC’s Strategic National Stockpile. The government does not publicize the contents of the federal stockpile, but Dr. Richard Branson (https://med.uc.edu/surgery/department-directory/faculty/Index/Pubs/bransord/), a professor of surgery emeritus at the University of Cincinnati and the editor-in-chief (http://rc.rcjournal.com/sites/default/files/additional-assets/2020edboard.pdf) of the journal Respiratory Care, told Politico (https://www.politico.com/news/2020/03/14/health-system-coronavirus-preparation-129066) there are believed to be around 20,000 ventilators in the national emergency stockpile.
Research published (https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/eid/article/23/6/16-1417_article) in Emerging Infectious Diseases in 2017 concluded that the number of ventilators in the national stockpile “might not suffice to meet demand during a severe public health emergency.”

ALL of them need to stop blaming each other. It serves no purpose. If a call for help and the need for supplies goes out. Just get it done. End of story. The entire US has been caught unprepared.

Since Italy's case fatality rate of 8% is estimated using the confirmed cases, Bendavid and Bhattacharya write, "the real fatality rate [of the virus] could in fact be closer to 0.06%."

https://www.theblaze.com/news/stanford_coronavirus_too_high_death

The fatality rate is really a mute point. The problem... and what made me change my mind about taking this virus serious is how quickly it over taxes a hospital in a hot zone. The COVID-19 patients overwhelm the ER and ICUs to the point the hospitals can't treat other critical individuals. They come in with severe pneumonia, most of them recover but they still use up resources in excess of what is on hand.

China Supplied Faulty Coronavirus Test Kits to Spain, Czech Republic

Up to 80 percent of the 150,000 portable, quick coronavirus test kits China delivered to the Czech Republic earlier this month were faulty, according to local Czech news site Expats.cz. The tests can produce a result in 10 or 15 minutes but are usually less accurate than other tests. Because of the high error rate, the country will continue to rely on conventional laboratory tests, of which they perform about 900 a day.

The country’s Health Ministry paid $546,000 for 100,000 of the test kits, while the Interior Ministry paid for the other 50,000.

The fact of the matter is---no government can gear up completely for an un determined future pandemic, can't happen.

The logistics would be staggering.

The utility of items has an expiration date.

A government can take reasonable precautions against the unknown--then have to procure items based out of current necessity.

How can it work otherwise?

President Trump has invoked the Defense Production Act for the first time, requiring General Motors to supply ventilators

"Today, I signed a Presidential Memorandum directing the Secretary of Health and Human Services to use any and all authority available under the Defense Production Act to require General Motors to accept, perform, and prioritize federal contracts for ventilators," Trump said in a statement.

Exactly! So why did you post an article that indicates Cuomo was at fault for not stock piling more ventilators back in 2015?

It was idiotic of Trump to even bring that up

Trump was only responding to the question asked of him.

Cuomo and Trump are getting along a lot better than certain "news" sources would have us believe. Like Trump says, it's not the Fed's responsibility to make sure each state's inventory of these items are stocked up. New York did in fact downplay the inventory levels suggested a few years ago and is now trying to blame Trump. The 50 Governors were all working together on the phone call, but once they are alone and hounded by the press, they'll come up with something.

Trump would not have mentioned New York's low ventilator inventory if Cuomo did not try to blame it on him. Most of Trump's statements are responses to the media's questions.

This is aimed towards nobody, but keep these points in mind:

It's getting blatantly obvious that certain people want this recovery to look bad on Trump.

*blaming Trump for the idiot that ingested the fish tank cleaner? Come on people, hydroxychloroquine has been FDA approved for DECADES. I haven't yet heard Trump advise anybody to go out and buy it either. A Dr would prescribe it. Some states want to make hydroxychloroquine unavailable! https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/25/us/malaria-drugs-nevada-trnd/index.html

*Justifying NOT broadcasting the LIVE press conferences and updates from Trump, on the biggest story in the world right now? https://www.thedailybeast.com/cnn-and-msnbc-staffers-wary-of-airing-trump-coronavirus-pressers Thank goodness they've been getting the Emergency Broadcast System tested out and going, just watch, media will try to block him so hard that we WILL be receiving the updates this way.

*Calling him racist for closing travel from China so soon, then trying to find ways to accuse him of acting so slowly. They are also calling him racist for saying "Chinese Virus" when there are countless screenshots of the accusers saying the same damned thing, until their little review groups decided we didn't want to hurt any feelbads.

*Compare the fast and organized reaction/handling, and even the daily press conferences for COVID compared to H1N1. Have we ever had a president that speaks with the hostile press, accepting questions daily? Even throughout his presidency he's speaking with the press almost on a daily occurrence. Not even Obama did this when the press had 'Bama Boners constantly.

In 2 weeks we are going to look back at all of the summaries and we will laugh at how blatantly obvious it was that a lot of people wanted this to be so much worse, to hurt Trump's economy. The virus is real, no doubt. But Trump is all over this and it's pissing people off. Enjoy the show, and smile as the economy comes back better than it ever was.

Have you read the report issued by NY?

I have it if you'd like.

It is a 272 page document titled "Ventilator Allocation Guidelines"

And yep--logistics are off the charts.

Lots of differing forms of triage for ventilators spelled out, not pleasant decisions but pandemic decisions.

For those who don't know(I can't imagine anyone) if you bitch slap Trump in public, he will get even, it's who he is.

He doesn't turn the other cheek, so if ones plan is an attempt to chastise/humiliate Trump, you better have your ducks in a row.

New York has always had a plan to deal with lack of ventilators, a VERY well detailed, medical and yes legal plan.

The writers of the "plan" always knew there would be mass death and supplies and staff would be inadequate, they detailed this scenario they are in right now back in 2015.

To claim Trump didn't do his homework would be reciting msn stories that have no idea if true but intend to defame Trump at every level.(how do they, or you know what he has or hasn't researched?)

Can they or you site some sorta proof that Trump is not accurately informed, as you claim?

He is the most powerful man in the world, he has access to hundreds if not thousands of staff who all run computers better than most.

Their research ability is unlimited.

Or is it just that his style irritates you and you/they detest him?

From a very biased opinion, I'd say he and his team are doing a phenomenal job, I guest history and the current media will judge.

From report

The state did not plan to increase its stockpile because it anticipated that in the event of a severe crisis, there would be shortage of trained staff to operate them and demand would outweigh any emergency stockpile. The report said the state had to balance the likely ventilator shortage with the need for adequate funding for current and ongoing health care expenses.

oldno7

So to summarize the report:

New York was preparing for a pandemic

There was no need for more ventilators because:

a) they needed the money elsewhere

b) they wouldn't have the manpower in a pandemic to utilize more ventilators.

To say that Trump was not happy with General Motors and their response to a request to manufacturer more ventilators voluntarily is an understatement.

So Trump showed GM who has the biggest dick in the room and invoked the Defense Production Act.

Bottomline.... Don't f**k with Trump or you will probably get your ass handed to you.

So I see that the border of Grand and San Juan counties is only about 10 miles south of Moab...so it's possible to camp Behind The Rocks and drive to all the biking trails. I also called the Needles Outpost...she said "we're open" and hardly anyone was there. I told her I'd likely show up within a week and stay for a week. Bike Moab, then hike tons of trials in the Needles...that'll burn up 10 days before I'm ready to move on.

So I load the truck today figuring on driving tomorrow and I get a text from the gal at the Outpost...as of today, San Juan County is closed. She has to shut down.

So that thoroughly BBQs that plan. Also, I see that your Governor threw down a state wide "remain in place" recommendation...not an order. Not yet, at least.

So I see that Bryce is still open, and they haven't shut down St. George yet... but that may be coming down the pike. I wonder if the Highway Patrol or the cops will chase people away who have out of state plates? I'd hate to drive all the way out there only to have to run a gauntlet every time I drive thru town to pick up some veggies. I'm curious if the police are lackadaisical about that kind of thing.

I really want to go...just to get out of this weird vibe town and enjoy the outdoors, full time like. Also, I'd like to see if theres a lot of other people out in the sticks...'cuz this whole thing is like a trial run to truly "bugging out". Get the vibe of how it would play out if it really mattered. Counties closing down and putting up roadblocks...that's probably likely. That would be keeping out the desert "survivalist" for sure. Better make sure your bug out spot is close to home, eh?

I'll give it another day or two to see what happens over there...if nothing heavy then I'll just venture out and hope I'm not heading back within a few days. The only thing that would make that happen is the authorities pulling people over and pointing them home.

Crazy times.

From a very biased opinion, I'd say he and his team are doing a phenomenal job, I guest history and the current media will judge.

No Kurt I have not read the entire 272 page report word for word. But yes I have read parts of it and skimmed other portions.

The 15,000 ventilators he claims NY had an opportunity to buy comes from an article written by Betsy Mccaughey (https://nypost.com/2020/03/19/we-didnt-have-to-have-ventilator-shortage-leaders-chose-not-to-prep-for-pandemic/) she extrapolates the number from that ventilator report from page 30. On this page it compares a moderate outbreak to a severe outbreak and the need for ventilators in each scenarios. Where she came up with the cost of ventilators I don’t know she doesn’t site her source for that quote. And no where in the allocation document does it talk about the cost of ventilators.

The report wasn’t just created in 2015, as her article misleads readers to believe, it was first drafted in 2007 and updated in 2015 to include pediatric and neonatal protocols and update adult protocols. It is also used by other states or at least they developed their plans based off NY’s.

This is where Trump took his information from, and her article is flawed.

The ventilator report states:

Pg 37

E. Stockpiling Ventilators
New York State pandemic planning includes careful consideration of the potential shortage of ventilators, based on the estimates discussed above. There is a federal government stockpile of ventilators, but its use is limited for any one locality; there are not enough ventilators to be distributed to meet demand if many regions need them at once. New York State has stockpiled 1,750 ventilators (57) to help reduce ventilator need in the face of the moderate scenario; (58) however, there are no current plans to buy enough ventilators for the most severe model. The State’s current approach to stockpiling a limited number of ventilators balances the need to prepare for a potential pandemic against the need to maintain adequate funding for current and ongoing health care expenses. Furthermore, severe staffing shortages are anticipated, and purchasing additional ventilators beyond a threshold will not save additional lives, because there will not be a sufficient number of trained staff to operate them. In the event of an overwhelming burden on the health care system, New York will not have sufficient ventilators to meet critical care needs despite its emergency stockpile. If the most severe forecast becomes a reality, New York State and the rest of the country will need to allocate ventilators and other scarce resources.

On page 29 in the footnotes it says

Last, the scaling factor (approximately 8.22) was derived by comparing death rates between the severe and moderate pandemics. This approach “works backward” from deaths, which given modern medicine might not be as high as observed in 1918. Unfortunately, the lack of data from the 1918 pandemic prevents an approach to “work forward” from infection rates, illness severity, and duration of illness to the number of ventilators that might be needed simultaneously in a severe pandemic. Given these caveats, it is likely not possible to accurately calculate the impact of a severe pandemic, including ventilator need, given the tools provided. Given these disclaimers, it is likely that the approach used overestimates the number of ventilators that would be needed during a severe pandemic.

No where in the report does it recommend NY purchase 15,000 ventilators. A search of the document for recommend pulls up 88 times that word is used and not one time does it say NY should buy ventilators. The document speaks to how to use available ventilators in the event that choices have to be made and who that decision falls on.

Can you Kurt or someone site where NY was told to buy 15,000 ventilators and the exact cost other than Ms. Mccaughey article?

No I do not like his style. I have never liked Trump. I don’t need the media to help me form my opinion of him it was formed before he ever ran for President. I am not Republican, not Democrat, Not Liberal I guess that makes me Independent… but I don’t feel like I belong there either.

He doesn’t research half the shit that comes out of his mouth.

In my very biased opinion he is doing a mediocre job. I don’t 100% disapprove of things he is doing concerning this pandemic but I think he has been slow to take this virus seriously but then so were a lot of us. I can’t stand all the asinine blaming about whose fault this is… it is a virus that mutated. Shut the hell up and work with the dam situation. Playing the blame game doesn’t serve a purpose.

*Justifying NOT broadcasting the LIVE press conferences and updates from Trump, on the biggest story in the world right now?https://www.thedailybeast.com/cnn-and-msnbc-staffers-wary-of-airing-trump-coronavirus-pressers Thank goodness they've been getting the Emergency Broadcast System tested out and going, just watch, media will try to block him so hard that we WILL be receiving the updates this way.

I think the AZ man should be nominated for a Darwin award.

Not broadcasting his LIVE press conferences is censorship and I personally have no respect for any outlet that would promote that… even if listening to him talk about drives me up the wall because he is a horrible orator. His favorite words are “thing” and “tremendous”. Every item is a “thing” … we do great things, it is a big thing… it is a tremendous thing…

Closing travel from China raised my eyebrow… but ultimately that is a commendable move.

Anyone who wants this to be worse just to prove that Trump’s economy is bad is selfish.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-03-27/abbott-launches-5-minute-covid-19-test-for-use-almost-anywhere

Abbott is probably one of my least favorite companies after being a Point of Care coordinator for EIRMC in Idaho for 2 years. They are shady in my opinion. But they talked about this test in the briefing tonight. I believe it was Pence that said your doctor could perform this test right in the doctors office. This is a perfect example of not researching accurately. In order for a doctors office to run this type of test they have to have the right CLIA certification.

CLIA requires that any facility examining human specimens for diagnosis, prevention, treatment of a disease or for assessment of health must register with the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and obtain CLIA certification.

Many doctors office choose not to maintain these certifications because you have to maintain records on validating the test, quality control and continued maintenance and education of personal to name a few things to keep that certification. The way Pence stated it made it sound like every doctors office could just buy this and run the test.

However for places that currently run Flu's, Streps, and RSV tests on this platform they will be able to get the new test and get it going rather quickly. I am curious about it sensitivity and specificity of the test. This type of test has a higher false negative then Real-time PCR tests.

Also I sincerely doubt that is a 5 minute test. I think the other 3 take a total of 20 minutes to run from start to finish. You still have to take the swab and put it in an extraction fluid before you run the test.

I haven't read whatever article you refer to, I did read an abundance of NY's Ventilator Allocation guidelines.

It clearly states the above quote.

NY knew they couldn't cover a pandemic in equipment or manpower.

So why does cuomo cry on tv that Donald Trump isn't doing his part?

Like I stated--history will show the Trump response to this crisis was very effective and his leadership reduced overall deaths.

The media will attack him 180* from whatever he does--constantly.

And yet he does the right thing and his focus is on rebuilding our Country "again".

I can't prove what information he based his decisions on and neither can anyone else.

To call him un informed is disingenuous at best and democrat hate speech at worst and it was repeated with no evidence, daily on msm and those who fail to think, repeat those untruths.

I didn't post what he claimed to base his information on, theres likely only one person who will ever know that.

I haven't watched network news for years and won't go back.

If I need information, I research it on my own and extrapolate an opinion based on that research.

I don't need the tv telling me what I think.

It was idiotic of Trump to even bring that up and then he did it out if context of the report because that man does very little to inform himself accurately.

Maybe it's out of context to believe he does very little to inform himself.

No we are not ready to be back to work by Easter.

I don't know but is it possible certain areas of the Country go online before others?

ie. Escalante has much less risk than New York city.

So does Escalante need to remain quarantined until New York is fully recovered or maybe on the downhill side of the curve?

Could Escalante open by Easter with restrictions such as maintain social distancing, wash your hands frequently, etc?

Or do the "studies" just say Easter is not a possibility?

Trump To Cruise Lines: If You Want American Coronavirus Relief, Try Being American Companies First“They have thousands and thousands of people that work there, and almost maybe as importantly that work on shore filling these ships with goods and products,” the president said Thursday. “The cruise line business is very important.” …
“I do like the concept of, perhaps, coming in and registering here. Coming into the United States,” Trump said at Thursday’s daily briefing on the coronavirus response. “It’s very tough to make a loan to a company when they’re based in a different country.”

All part of a bigger plan that most people don't know about. False Flags, when something is going a certain way, it's just a mighty strange coincidence that the news narrative gets immediately changed to something like a mass shooting.

With everybody off the streets and no crowded places, no mass shootings can happen, the narrative can't be changed.

This is a work of genius that we will see unfold in a couple of weeks. Stay tuned and enjoy the show.

What if these ships were loaded up with a certain kind of "sick people" and then kindly transported them over to Guantanamo Bay?

Just what if.

Remember all of those sealed indictments that have been building up, how people have been asking "Why is nobody getting arrested?". Well think about the timing. People can't leave the country easily, if you're insanely rich and you can't fly out, and you're on the coast, what's your next escape plan? Water.

What can't happen right now if arrests start going down? Protests, mobs, riots, mass shootings, escape out of the country, ability to focus media on arrests because COVID is dominating the media.

What would be a great way to transport thousands of people to GITMO? Jet, or by large ship?

This could all be pie in the sky crazy talk, but regardless we must admit what the conditions are right now, and the things that can't happen like mass shootings. These arrests could be happening RIGHT NOW and COVID is dominating the media. It would be perfect timing.

Kurt,

Scott asked what our gut feeling was telling us. So I answered what my gut tells me.

The big discussion now is are we going to be ready to ease restrictions and get back to work by Easter? Everybody is bitching and moaning about it and I think it’s too far out to decide at this point, but what does your gut tell you? Do you have any data to back this up? Maybe portions of the country will open up?

Why does my gut tell me this, because I work in the lab and I know what the testing capacity is and until we can test people and only isolate those that currently have the infection and do contact tracing to isolate people they come in contact with we are best to keep this social distancing going. When will the labs be up to speed with testing? Realistically, probably not until late April. Why, you ask? These tests that are newly developed have to be manufactured, shipped, and validated before we can start implementing testing on anyone and everyone. The test my hospital is bringing in house is not available to order until March 31st. The newest test Abbott announced yesterday won’t be available until Mid April. And then it only does us good if we can keep ordering and receiving the tests. Trust me I wish it would go faster than this and by letting these companies develop these tests without jumping through all the normal hoops was huge! And it gives us the best chance to start getting people back to work. But it doesn’t happen overnight and that is what I base my GUT feeling on.

Last weekend when I was at work we ran out of our Biofire respiratory panels. We had ordered double what we normally order and that order usually lasts several weeks. So it is not far fetched to worry that once we start in house testing for COVID we might have periods where the available tests run out before we can get more. This goes for all the tests available in the country.

I don't know but is it possible certain areas of the Country go online before others?

Absolutely they could go back online before other areas, but not until adequate testing is in place.

Or do the "studies" just say Easter is not a possibility?

I don’t have any studies to show you just the pleas of healthcare workers currently overwhelmed. I have already posted 3. Two from doctors and one from and ICU nurse.

Yes I see we scored the highest out of 195 countries, but what exactly is this score used for Kurt? It is a metric designed to identify GAPS in a country's ability to respond to a global threat. I was unaware of this index until this morning so I had to go educate myself because like you I don’t rely on network news. I do research.

For others who are unfamiliar with the GHS index I suggest the video below, it does a great job of explaining what this index is.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXSxOfIfvig

Interesting that around 6 minutes into the video Ernie Moniz says

No country high, middle, low income is fully prepared, in fact most countries have major gaps across all 6 categories in the index

At around 8 minutes in he says

The health system category was the lowest scoring category in the index, with an average of 26.2% out of 100. And I also note, in a more parochial note for healthcare access the United States was well below average

And right now it is in this arena that our pants are caught down Kurt. This index is great. It is a metric thoroughly vetted to show governments around the world where they lack preparedness for a pandemic or other similar type of disaster. Like I said, I hope after this is all said and done, I hope we learn gobs from what was done right and what we could have done better.

You keep throwing this quote up again and again Kurt. And I am not exactly sure what your purpose is in doing this.

I didn’t dispute this I posted exactly what it said on page 31 instead of summarized quote

From page 31

What I asked is where did the report ever say NY should buy 15000 ventilators?

Quote from Trump

“This says, ‘New York Governor Cuomo rejected buying recommended 16,000 ventilators in 2015 … for a pandemic,'” Trump said, reading from a printout of the article. “‘…established death panels and lotteries instead.’ So, he had a chance to buy in 2015, 16,000 ventilators at a very low price and he turned it down. I’m not blaming him or anything else, but he shouldn’t be talking about us.”

I maintain that Trump's info on the “death panels” and quote for cheap ventilators comes from Mccaughey’s article. Unless you can prove otherwise.. Don’t give me your line of crap about there is only one person that will ever know that.

This is from the article and it is what Trump paraphrased

In 2015, that task force came up with rules that will be imposed when ventilators run short. *Patients assigned a red code will have highest access, and other *patients will be assigned green, yellow or blue (the worst), *depending on a “triage officer’s” decision.
In truth, a death officer. Let’s not sugar-coat it. It won’t be up to your own doctor.
In 2015, the state could have purchased the additional 16,000 needed ventilators for $36,000 apiece, or a total of $576 million. It’s a lot of money, but in hindsight, spending half a percent of the budget to prepare for pandemic was the right thing to do.

As for Cuomo and his need for ventilators…. Apparently there are 4000 in some wearhouse in NJ. If that is the truth Cuomo was definitely out of line.

As for 5 policies I don’t agree with.

The Wall
The way he dealt with families at the border
And pretty much any of his policies that have to do with the environment.

You and I will never agree on Trump. I am not even going to try and find common ground there.

Absolutely they could go back online before other areas, but not until adequate testing is in place.

At around 8 minutes in he says

And right now it is in this arena that our pants are caught down Kurt. This index is great. It is a metric thoroughly vetted to show governments around the world where they lack preparedness for a pandemic or other similar type of disaster. Like I said, I hope after this is all said and done, I hope we learn gobs from what was done right and what we could have done better.

In my reply to you I posted that article so you could go read it. But Here you are again.

You keep throwing this quote up again and again Kurt. And I am not exactly sure what your purpose is in doing this.

I didn’t dispute this I posted exactly what it said on page 31 instead of summarized quote

From page 31

What I asked is where did the report ever say NY should buy 15000 ventilators?

Quote from Trump

I maintain that Trump's info on the “death panels” and quote for cheap ventilators comes from Mccaughey’s article. Unless you can prove otherwise.. Don’t give me your line of crap about there is only one person that will ever know that.

This is from the article and it is what Trump paraphrased

As for Cuomo and his need for ventilators…. Apparently there are 4000 in some wearhouse in NJ. If that is the truth Cuomo was definitely out of line.

As for 5 policies I don’t agree with.

The Wall
The way he dealt with families at the border
And pretty much any of his policies that have to do with the environment.

You and I will never agree on Trump. I am not even going to try and find common ground there.

The only line of crap is what you've reposted from cnn and msnbc.(thats where your "gut" feeling comes from.)

You need to step away from your tv, we're going to survive this far better than those prognosticators of doom claim for no other reason than to undermine the best President our economy has ever had

And an attempt to destroy his next election chances.

So you have listed 2 policies of Trumps you don't like:

The wall--So I'll only put it in the context of this current crisis.

Since we are proven to be the most prepared country in the world for a pandemic, folks coming from outside are Country only clog up

medical facilities that would be better at serving actual US citizens. Having a means to strictly regulate their entry would seem overly prudent.

Families at the border:

Theres hundreds of articles out there the underlying commonality is families were separated from children under both administrations, the nauseous infusion of-he was worse---no he was worse is of no logic.

They both did it! Justify one--claim the other was worse, they were doing the same thing--stemming the flow of "illegal immigrants/aliens", seems like sound policy for a Country battling a pandemic.

The only thing that has changed since Clinton and obama is--orange man bad--thats it.

Simple logic says no country can exist without a border.

Kurt,

Scott asked what our gut feeling was telling us. So I answered what my gut tells me.

Heres your reply--do you stand by that analysis?

Haven't heard anyone say anything about getting going without proper testing in place.

Still rate South Korea ahead of the US in pandemic readiness?

Us caught with pants down?

We seem to agree that no Nation can be completely prepared for a pandemic.

So since you chastised the United States--what should we have been more prepared for when an unknown covid pandemic strikes?

And equally as non meritorious, what did Donald Trump do wrong to prepare for an unknown covid virus?

"No we are not ready to be back to work by Easter.

That is my gut feeling."

Trump sees USNS Comfort off as it departs for New York

President Trump on Saturday saw the USNS Comfort off as it departed Naval Station Norfolk in Virginia for New York City, where it will serve as an emergency hospital for the city's coronavirus patients.

"Our country is at war with an invisible enemy," Trump said, referring to COVID-19. "We are marshaling the full power of the American nation ... to vanquish the virus, and we will do that."

Trump also referred to the ship as a "70,000-ton message of hope and solidarity to the incredible people of New York."
