Trump Did Not Use the Defense Protection Act?

The simple answer to the "question" is that the Dems and MSM are lying when they insinuate that he did not or seldom did it or hasn't used it recently. As can be seen from the length of this post, Trump used it a lot.

The DPA has several sections that pertain to different cabinet departments. Trump's first action was to delegate to the Secretary of Health and Human Services the task of determining what sorts of critical products would likely come to be in short supply - including materials necessary to produce products and bottlenecks to production and distribution - that would require use of the DPA. Some ten days later Trump delegated to the secretaries of pertinent cabinet departments the authority to make loans and engage in contracts. In other words, rather than go about using the DPA willy-nilly, Trump first started the process of determining needs and set up the organizational structure for addressing those needs, immediate and future.

As will be seen below, the DPA was seldom used to compel production of something (twice?). Most actions were contracts to purchase products and investments in production capabilities. All very nutsy-boltsy, all not thrilling news stories, and hence didn't get a lot of public visibility. The Dems and MSM are cynically gaming this lack of awareness when they lyingly insinuate that Trump failed to use the Defense Protection Act.

Untested Trump Vaccine?

Like influenza and other viruses, Covid-19 and other Corona virues will never go out of circulation. Thus the long-term "solution" to Covid-19 is to have one or more vaccines for the virus (which could be "adjusted" to counter-act future Corona virus outbreaks).

What is this test "Phase" stuff? Phase I is the first human trial, with a few 10s of subjects. It tests whether the vaccine candidate can be effective, and at a dose level with reasonably mild side effects (safety). Phase II involves hundreds of subjects, with a wider range of age and ethnic backgrounds. Phase III involves 10s of thousands of subjects. Phases II and III both continue to look at effectiveness and safety. Phase III is the final pre-approval test phase.

What follows is timelines for the progress of each of the leading vaccine candidate, plus several others whose companies are working with the various Federal agencies. These are far from the only vaccines being developed "out there", but are the ones most likely to be approved earliest by the US FDA. Taking a view at a level above the nutsy-boltsy details, one can see that:

* The Trump Administration is not putting "its" eggs in just one or a very few baskets;

* The Trump Administration has chosen companies from multiple countries - AstraZeneca is UK/Sweden; BioNTEch is German; Sanofi is French;

* A great deal of attention has not only gone into development and testing, but the US government has also assisted the vaccine companies with production capacity in the US and with necessaries such as vials and syringes; potential bottlenecks have been anticipated and addressed.

So it seems to me that the desire to avoid being locked up behind bars is almost like an involuntary reflex, or perhaps a matter of intrinsic self preservation. Yet we see these people that have abandon that altogether...looting, arson, assault, murder, battery, threats and intimidation, etc...things that could result in your being arrested and/or jailed. It's almost like that switch has gone "off" in their brains...the rage has turned them into fanatics...zombie like with no sense of self preservation.

We've all seen this before...those religious zealots in the Middle East for example...willing to "martyr" themselves with no regard for their future or the consequences of their actions. "Fanatics"..."Maniacs".

I'd say we're seeing the American version of this. These people are reacting on pure emotion without reason, completely devoid of decency...like raging zombies who's brains have switched to overload. What Happened to Covid-19 Tests?!

Test development started when the CDC knew what a test had to detect, January 11th (the 12th on China's side of the International Dateline), https://www.who.int/csr/don/12-january-2020-novel-coronavirus-china/en/ . With that as the starting date the CDC started shipping its test in less than 4 weeks, not exactly a slow response. But a fateful decision had already been been made. Only the CDC-created test could be used and only processed by the CDC. If everything worked OK with the tests that began shipping on February 6th, the CDC would soon have become an awful bottleneck, though that may not have been realized in late January and early February.

But everything was not OK with those tests. Figuring out that the tests were defective and determining the cause consumed several weeks. Finally, at the end of February the FDA permitted use of other labs' tests that were still in the process of obtaining an Emergency Use Authorization, and then the testing ball got moving:

Looking at it all from a level above the nutsy-boltsy details, the CDC lab in Atlanta made undergraduate-level mistakes that resulted in defective tests. A few months ago I started tracking Utah daily cases by age to see who was getting the rona over the summer. Eventually I started comparing the current # of deaths to cases as of 24 days previous. I figure deaths seem to lag about that long, and this should give us a better CFR. Here is Utah in case you were interested. Assuming Utah is catching about 1 in 4 cases the current IFR is about .23%. People seem to be completely unable to judge risk these days. 1 out of every 663 men between the ages of 35-44 die every year. That same age group in Utah has a 1 in 1,200 chance of dying if they test positive. So a positive test adds roughly 6 months of risk to a middle age guy, or roughly 6 weeks of risk if we are getting 1 in 4 cases. And I the only one starting to see a lot of similarities in the "Long Covid" people and the "Chronic Fatigue Syndrome" people?

I haven't seen the latest official numbers by state.

The last I saw Trump was leading in Michigan, Arizona, Georgia, Wisconsin, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.....and then more votes magically were found overnight in each of these states and then the media declared Biden a winner and since then the official vote count numbers haven't been released -- or at least I haven't seen them.


Anybody have an update as to what the official tally is thus far? I mean, I know Biden's "not-fraudulent" ballot generator likely got him over the finish line in each state but I was just curious what the "official" tally was.

Well, I have two close family members who work in health care (one is a nurse at UofU Hospital, and the other is a licensed pharmacist who works at Cottonwood Regional AND the VA Hospital). I put that question to them and they both told me that the scary headlines about hospital capacity is mostly fake news. The numbers are inflated and/or skewed to make the Covid cases appear higher.

They also mentioned that the Covid tests being administered are very prone to reporting false negatives -- up to 20 - 30%.

So over the weekend I followed up with my in-laws who work at Cottonwood Medical Center and the Veteran's Hospital. They reiterated that the numbers reported in the media are being made to seem more ominous than they really are. They made these two important points:

1. Hospital occupancy ALWAYS goes up during Oct - Dec, even in pre-Covid times. So the fact that the hospitals are "filling up" is completely normal for this time of year.

2. The most alarming thing they're seeing right now are folks who come in with very serious late stage diseases because they've been avoiding going to the doctor for the last 8 months. Some doctors would take only the most serious cases - no preventative screenings or regular check-ups for the last 8 months. So now there is a tidal wave of folks showing up with late stage cancers and other serious illnesses that would've normally been caught early on in any other year. Covid really isn't that big a deal right now compared to the other issues that are being inflated by media induced fear.

Spoke with another in-law who works in the medical field over Thanksgiving. He's been a registered nurse for over 20 years at Las Vegas Valley Hospital Medical Center. Echoing the sentiments of his brothers who work at hospitals here in SLC, he also said he's not worried about Coronavirus at all.

What he IS worried about are upticks of other diseases such as Hepatitis that haven't been considered problems for many years. Folks are so paranoid of going to the hospital that they wait until the very last second to see a doctor... which causes whatever ailment they have to be serious and/or life threatening.

It's really criminal how the media has blown this way out of proportion.

Real question based on personal experience and observation of my family and people I'm close enough too that I can vouch for the reality of what I'm talking about...

My son was exposed to COVID at the end of October. He tested positive for it soon after that. I live in a house with 7 people. There is NO ROOM for us all to isolate ourselves from each other. As a result, there is no way to "quarantine" in my house. Soon, my wife got sick (low fever, body aches, sinus issues, etc.) and my two youngest kids came down with a low fever and a slight cough that lasted for a couple of days. We all got tested and my wife and 9 year old son tested positive. Everyone else, negative. Nobody else got it. We were not distancing ourselves from each other and did not wear masks around each other.

There are a bunch of other families in our neighborhood that have had similar experiences. One or two people get it, but that's it. Everybody else stays healthy and does just fine. One of these people that got it was a young lady that had Leukemia and had just finished a round of chemo and therefore had no immune system to speak of. She was practically asymptomatic and quickly fought it off.

The question I have is why are we told that if you go outside without a mask, you're going to get it or give it to someone, even if you don't have it (still trying to figure that one out). I know the answer to this, I'm just trying to share my experience. I really think this is going to go down in history as one of the greatest over reactions and public policy mistakes, worldwide, in human history. I don't think it's nearly as contagious as we've been told. I don't think that it's as deadly as we've been told.

All this to say that while I realize that it's a real disease, and yes, some people have passed away this year and it likely was a contributing factor, it is not the genocidal bogey man that we're all being sold. At this point, though, the human race has PTSD and needs a good therapist just to go back outside or attend a concert or something like that.

Yep. Like I said. I think people are genuinely suffering from some form of PTSD over this. My wife's cousin hasn't visited her parents since March, when this whole thing began, and she's a wreck of a person over all this. Like really struggling emotionally and mentally. It's insane. She, and many others like her, have lost an entire year of their lives worrying about this. Everything you just wrote proves it...and in all this time I have yet to meet a single person who has suffered greatly from it. I've worked for scores of people in the last 9 months and only about 4-5 told me they knew someone that got it, and not one has died. One guy went to the hospital because of heart problems. Personally, I throw on a bandana when I walk into a business, but otherwise don't "mask up" anywhere else. I'm in and out of grocery stores, the paint store, Home Depot, etc...on damn near a daily basis. I don't wash my friggin' hands all the time...only when I feel like they're dirty. I got no problems...I feel great but according to the political elites and local media the virus is swirling all around me? I don't hear people coughing and hacking.

If I "get it" I'll just eat it for lunch just like Trump did...just like those in your family, too. I'm not gonna live in fear...the people that do are sad, pathetic and weak minded IMO. I will make exception for those that are remarkably unhealthy.

FWIW - The very first freeze fest (2001?) consisted of Ram, Tom Jones, Hank Moon and myself. Hank and I rented a room in Hanksville for $25 a night. I know of lots of people who have had it. So far, I have at least a dozen in-laws who have had it, two good friends, and our across-the-street neighbors both had it. My household had Covid... my wife was pretty sick for about 3 days, similar to the flu, but different. It took her about 3 weeks to get all her energy back.

I never knew I had Covid, never had any known symptoms, always felt great. The doctor said about 25% of those with Covid never know they have it.

One strange thing... for about a week I kept getting these wicked nose bleeds. Come to find out that is a common side effect for those with Covid as the virus attacks the nose membrane among other things.

My 3 year old got it back in June. He had no symptoms and to the best of my knowledge didn't pass it on to the rest of us. At this point I have probably known 50 people that had it, and symptoms ranged from a mild cold, to a severe flu. I think it's pretty standard that the vast majority of people will be just fine 2-6 weeks later. The problem of course is that it is quite contagious and so the rule of large numbers kicks in and you have overrunned health care systems and lots of dead elderly people. Wasn't there a regular poster here who was a MD and had a daughter that was an MD? I wonder what his opinion is on things. I agree however with most of you that it wasn't worth tanking the economy for. But the nice thing about it, is that it has sure been nice going to restaurants and never having to wait in line.

The irony of it all though is just how brutal school closures are to low income kids, and how the left doesn't seem to give 2 shits, since they have championed school closures from the beginning. Unfortunately Trump is in an impossible position. If he doesn't sign it then he'll torpedo the 900Billion bill that was recently passed that includes stimulus checks and extended unemployment benefits through the holidays. This bill has been the subject of relentless bickering between the Dems and the GOP for months, and is considered a compromise bill.

Without a doubt the bill is very heavy on the pork, but if you don't like it just know that the previous versions of it were probably much, much worse. The CARES Act bill was way more "porky" than this one is.

Personally, I think it's unfathomable considering the degree of economic armageddon we've been through, where so many small businesses have been bankrupted that the best our government can do is a one time check for $600 bucks. I mean, what's 600 bucks gonna do when the average family's bills amount to tens of thousands?
