What can't be set aside as easily, if at all, are things written directly in the Constitution: January 20 inauguration, the House voting as state delegations if no one reaches 270, etc.

Obviously a remote chance of the deadlines being put aside, since in 2000 the SC specifically stopped the Florida recount because the Dec. 8 deadline was approaching. The clause was meant to apply to the legislatures picking the electors, hence the Dec 14 date. But since a vote of the people picks the electors under state laws, this clause has to apply to the entire voting period, it seems to me.

Text of the 1948 law laying the authority for the Dec 14 date. Seems like it can by extended, by the legislature itself. Which jives with the Constitution granting solely legislatures the power to appoint electors as they determine. As in, Congress cannot specify when legislatures do this. First graph shows an incredible tracking of Biden absentee vote % to Trump's. As if an algorithm said, "Give Biden 1.5x the number of absentee votes as Trump."

Third graph shows the % of absentee votes by precinct number. Precincts are small, like 100 to 2000 votes. Hence why so many precincts in large counties. If you order the precincts by Biden % absentee, rarely does the Trump data approach Biden's.
