I actually had a bit of respect for Bernie when in one of the debates, he actually said that he would indeed raise taxes on teh middle class to pay for stuff. The problem is that if you go to his website and look at the proposed tax brackets in his plan, they remain identical to the current rates until you make $250,000 per year. Then they go up. Yup... If Trump is seen as a "war time" president expertly handling the nation in a time of crisis this will greatly improve his image. I doubt Bush 43 would have won a second term if not for 9-11 and his handling of the situation in time of crisis. I don't even think Bush 43 did a very good job with handling 9-11, but he stepped forward and cast himself as a strong, calm and reassuring figure when the nation was scared and in turmoil. The nation bought everything Bush 43 was selling. The big trick for Trump is getting the nation to see Covid-19 as a war on an unseen enemy.

Those of us old enough remember it well(Patriot act) it seemed like a simple solution at the time but it opened Pandora's box.

There was a serious loss of Liberty after 9-11 and we are reminded constantly.

It was intended to sunset but that wasn't adhered to.

It gave the government unfettered access to EVERY part of our lives.

It lasted all or in part up to 2015.

So yea, organize a response in a military/organized fashion but we gave up too much Liberty in 2001, a repeat would not be prudent or justified.

On one hand, if you're going to give money, it's really the only fair way to do it so everyone actually gets some help. If you give it to some government agency the money will just get swallowed up in the system and never actually reach those in need, which is exactly what happened with the Obama stimulus money.

On the other hand 90% of the people will just waste the money on frivolous items as this goes back to my core belief the people are not poor because they don't have money, but they are poor because they don't know how to mange money. There is really no reason that most American workers should not be able to weather a two week storm other then they never planned or prepared. Instead they blow every dime they made and this stimulus money will be no different. The good part about this plan is while the individual will blow through the cash a good chuck of it will end up in the pockets of small business, which is who needs it the most.

But mostly I think the Republicans just stole a page from the Democratic play book.... give everyone free shit and get elected... damn inflation and damn the national debt... We can always just print more money....

Gabbard's proposal was on March 12, H.Res897...calling for $1000 per month for every adult in the country. That's overkill and I have no doubt that while some truly low budget people would use the money to pay monthly bills, plenty of others would smoke it, drink it, or shoot it up. Nominee? Cuomo. Biden will win the floor vote first ballot. He'll decline the nomination. Delegates are free to vote on ballots 2 and beyond. DNC and party apparatus will install Cuomo. Biden needs to be persuaded, obviously, but the power brokers are already working on him.

His wife will be the one to do it. He'll come to understand he'd be a guaranteed Dem folk hero even if Cuomo loses, vs a very likely despised loser if he continues. He can't drop out now, though, since delegates are committed on ballot 1.

Admittedly my theory is difficult to execute. Would require Biden to swear he'd decline the nom, so the establishment might prefer this route, of damaging Biden, where no one has a majority on ballot 1. Then install Cuomo on the floor.

Big media isn't sure what to do with this story just yet. First inclination is to hide it, of course. But they'll take out Biden once they understand the task at hand.

With this pandemic being the #1 news topic, Trump has been the only candidate in the news the last month. ^ My prediction stands. All boils down to Biden having to step aside. The interesting thing is, he can't do it too early. He needs to amass the delegates needed to win on the first ballot, in order to both prevent Sanders from winning and to be in position to decline the nomination.

Then in dramatic fashion, he martyrs himself and endorses Cuomo, with his delegates voting in lockstep. But even then, if some of his delegates don't go along, moving to the 2nd ballot, the superdelegates come in.

In two recent interviews with The Associated Press, Tara Reade alleged the assault occurred in the basement of a Capitol Hill office building in the spring of 1993. It’s not the first time Reade has made an accusation against the former vice president. Last year, Reade publicly accused Biden of inappropriate touching, but did not allege sexual assault.
