Internal GOP Poll: 'We've Lost the Messaging Battle'on Tax Cuts

A survey commissioned by the Republican National Committee has led the party to a glum conclusion regarding President Donald Trump’s signature legislative achievement: Voters overwhelmingly believe his tax overhaul helps the wealthy instead of average Americans.

By a 2-to-1 margin -- 61 percent to 30 percent -- respondents said the law benefits “large corporations and rich Americans” over “middle class families,” according to the survey, which was completed on Sept. 2 by the GOP firm Public Opinion Strategies and obtained by Bloomberg News.

The result was fueled by self-identified independent voters who said by a 36-point margin that large corporations and rich Americans benefit more from the tax law -- a result that was even more lopsided among Democrats. Republican voters said by a 38-point margin that the middle class benefits more.

When it comes to approval for the tax overhaul, American voters remain torn -- 44 percent favor it and 45 percent oppose it.

“Voters are evenly divided on the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act,” the RNC-commissioned report said. “But, we’ve lost the messaging battle on the issue.”

To me, wealthy is enough dependable, passive income to not have to worry about work, and to be able to make recreation purchases without really considering costs all that much. Want a new bike, even though you already have 5? who cares, get it.

If you are spending time shopping around for anything less than $10k, you are not wealthy in my book. If you have a great job and make great money, but can't retire tomorrow if you'd like, you are not wealthy.

Looks like it could end in disaster. They're gonna all make it to the Mex/U.S. border, where customs won't let them through --- and then what? My prediction is that they'll be stonewalled at the border and then proceed to just camp out in mass just beyond the border, staging a sort of "sit-in" protest, hoping that the U.S. will relent. They'll camp out there for a little while, then get hungry and tired of sitting around doing nothing and eventually melt into Mexico. A few might sneak into the States.

It's hard for me to believe that anyone would vote for these Dems that are keeping silent on this. Some of the conservatives were focused on reality, but nearly all of the people there seemed hyper emotional. Some of them yelled at each other. The liberals seem to think that we still live in the 1800s...come one, come all. Plenty of room. Denying that there may be bad men among the "caravan".

If the Dems win the House, it'll encourage those guys to keep marching. If they get to the border in large numbers, then Trump will have no choice but to lock it down and we'll have to bear witness to yet another psycho side show. That new Mexican prez isn't going to do shit to help, either. The Dems are going to force a precedent to be set. It may backfire right in their faces.

I don't expect that to hold up for a number of reasons.

The first being there are only 46 seats in the white house conference room and the executive branch can invite who they wish. There is no God given right that anyone who wishes can attend, otherwise you and I could drop in.

The second being I don't think it's legal for the judicial branch of government to dictate how the executive branch runs their pressers. There is a reason we have 3 branches of government.

Trump never said the Seal's should have gotten Osama sooner. He said the military should have by never allowing Osama to escape Afghanistan, which would have resulted in his being captured sooner.

There sure were a lot of folks from both the Bush and Obama white houses that said there is always a plan B due to weather on an event like that. We will have to disagree with the Seal stuff. His comment came directly after calling McRaven a political hack and him responding to McRaven defending the press. They weren't at all talking about Pakistan at the time. Trump was the one that pivoted there after what he said. It's the same thing he always does when someone "attacks" him, he immediately hits back. Same thing with the POW comments and the Khan comments, he can't help himself.
