The cop that pulled me over the other day looked just like her. I was a little confused when I started to dial the courthouse and the number started with 1-900

I have one word for ya'll....... VUZE
What is it exactly.... how does it differ from a client like utorrent?

  5. #164
VUZE is pretty much an idiot proof bit-torrent client. Just type in a search and it will find the item, download the item, load the item on your preferred device for viewing (ipod, DVD, apple tv, xbox, yada, yada). Or you can just watch the item directly in Vuze. Its super simple to use and they have worked hard to make it a one stop deal for downloading and viewing, you just need Vuze to use torrents and no other program.

As for utorrent and the others.... I haven't looked at or used any of the other bit-torrent clients since I switched to Vuze a couple years ago. There has been no need as Vuze does everything extremely well.

I'm stuck with utorrent for a while. I the site I use is invitation only and they prefer utorrent. Oh well, I might check out vuze if I can't find something on my site (which hasn't happened in 3 years).

Thanks for the info on it

The site has no clue what your client is.... you can use whatever client you wish... You download the torrent from the site. Once the torrent is downloaded it is than handled by the client.

But if you are happy with utorrent I'd just stick with it. No need to learn new software that way. If I was new to torrents I'd look hard at Vuze, because the learning curve is short and easy.

Why say the "site" when that narrows it down to like 3 private-only torrent sites. Demonoid perhaps?

Utorrent is great cause it's lightweight and has a remote option (or web u.i.) so you can login from the Internet to your public IP and download and manage torrents from any on-line capable device.

Ha ha, no, I just said "the site" because it just seemed easier to type than "torrent leech" But I ended up typing more.... Oh well.

And Iceaxe, I didn't realize that they wouldn't know which one. Not to mention I had been using Utorrent since my freshman year of highschool so I wasn't worried anyways. But I do have a couple friends just starting to use torrents. I will have to pass vuze along to them :)

Slightly off subject, but how many ISP's block or warn you about torrent sites and prohibit their use?

I also remember someone on here getting a letter from Comcast...found it: http://www.bogley.com/forum/showthre...ent-vs-Comcast

I use Peerblock and it's not foolproof. I received my first letter from Cox about a year ago. It came via email the morning after a marathon downloading session. It was legit 'cause it had the episode and time downloaded the night before. Essentially cox had been contacted by NBC that someone at my IP address did it. Then cox had to contact me to protect themselves. Then I got Peerblock and have been using it since. My typical downloading session involves a night or two every other month or so where I get a ton of stuff. I got my 2nd letter a few weeks ago. I've been using Utorrent.

So basically Cox doesn't block sites but if they're contacted then they will cut you off.

And I assume they'll send the email to the address listed on the user account? Because I don't think ANYBODY checks ours.

And I also assume you're only on NBC's naughty list, and not any of the other studios until they track you? So you've kind of got some wiggle room with the other studios until they contact you once?

I've heard Peerblock slows down your connection, is this true in your case?

I'll grab a few single TV episodes here and there right after they air, I've wondered how vigilant the TV corporations are vs the Film industry on tracking this.

FWIW: I watched the first episode of AMC's "Hell On Wheels" last night.... looks like it could be a winner.

Wow, looks pretty good. I had high hopes for Deadwood but I really got bored with it.

Yep it went to my cox email (which I usually never check but I just happened to check it). Not sure if it's just NBC. Doesnt matter though since once you're on Cox's list you're there. So it wouldn't matter if fox or CBS contacted them or whoever as long as they contact them once more I'll be on the 3 strikes and you're out list. SUPPOSEDLY......

Peerblock does not slow my connection at all. At night time I pull over a 500mb a sec in download speed. I think the tv studios are more diligint. Both of my letters came from studios (one for hung and one for parenthood). It's weird cause the email states only one of the items downloaded that night but there may have been 25 parenthood episodes done that night but only one email. Weird.

I am scaling back my cable service and keeping the interwebz. I may be dipping into the darkside soon. I've downloaded before, but really haven't had the need to grab TV shows until now.

I got a call from Comcast and they were asking me all sorts of questions about how I use my internet... I was getting pretty nervous and was darting around a couple questions when I realized that they were just trying to upgrade me.

WHEW!!!! But I have never gotten a letter from anyone. I torrent the shiz out of the interwebs all the time. I am also uploading almost every day.

Yeah I got a notice from my provider as well. They say they will give me up to 5 notices before turning me off but I'm super nervous now too. I gave them the wrong phone number and they could not contact me. So they actually turned off my internet service until I called them, got the warning, and they turned me right back on.

I guess giving out the wrong phone number all the time to avoid telemarketers isn't the best idea.

Looking for a better solution if anyone has any ideas? I was thinking of setting up a VPN tunnel to an offshore site and then channeling all my traffic through there. But that would kill my phat bandwidth. But I basically need an intermediary before my ISP I think. Because even if i mask my IP addy, the provider always seems to know who I am. Any ideas?????
