The possible strategy for the left and the 9th Cir. Court is to legalize open carry hoping a ton of rednecks will open carry and cause public hysteria and scare the kiddies which would then create a public opinion towards amendments and/or laws and possibly a constitutional repeal. At least if I was on that side of the fence, that is how I would do it. Too much history and law against the left on this issue. I think the left will have to change public opinion as they will not be able to change the constitution through the courts.

Frankly, I'm not a fan of open carry. I own guns, I shoot guns, I like guns. Not surprisingly, one of my guns is "The Judge" by Taurus. :2thumbs: The business end of The Judge is impressive. . . . . but I digress.

Even in the old westerns there were towns and events where you checked your guns at the fence or door, and for good reason. I do not think it is in the best interest of society to have a bunch of guns strapped to a bunch of people's thigh or hanging off of shoulders. Even when I was a kid, the guns were put away until you actually needed them for something like hunting after school. I do support conceal carry and feel pretty good here in Utah knowing that many of my friends and family are carrying guns so I don't have too. :) I really don't want to see some dude carrying a AR at a football game, no matter how pure his intentions.

If you really want to know what happened read the book "A Place Called Waco" by David Thibodeau as he was there and in the middle of it from start to finish. It's a good read. Thibodeau does say Koresh was married to a 17 year old woman, that was one of his several wives.

What's not to get? That the chance of being involved in a shooting like that is so minuscule as to not even enter my thoughts? I'm much more likely to get run down by a texting mom in a Honda Odyssey, so why would I want a bunch of untrained yahoos walking around with a gun? I see how stupid the average human is everyday so no thanks to them all carrying guns. If everyone carried a gun then sure you may stop these extremely rare events a little faster, but you'd also have 10x more accidental shootings. Look up the stats on handguns in the house. Much more likely to end up accidentally shooting someone or giving easy suicide access to a depressed teen than you are to take out an intruder.

I'm not an anti 2A guy either by the way, if you want a gun, get one. But please for the love of god get some training and lock it up from your kids. Also please don't delude yourself in thinking that you are somehow safer, cus you ain't.

There are very few folks I'd lend a firearm for any reason...

As for prosecuting the individual that lent the firearm it's my current understanding he broke no laws, which is why he isn't being prosecuted. And I'm sure law enforcement has looked at every possibility. For better or worse lack of commonsense is not a crime.

Anyhoo... I'm always curious to see how things like this shake out from a legal standpoint. YMMV

Well, there are so many people I see that can barley get their car out of the supermarket parking lot. Some people simply aren't cut out for it. There are plenty of others that would vomit at the sight of a gun. We had a gal come to an HOA meeting here at my complex...she was so upset she was shaking. We have a security guard that walks the grounds every Sunday doing parking violations. He looks like a cop, full utility belt, cop pants, cop shirt...and a firearm along with mace and lots of other kick ass stuff. Randy, younger guy who's been doing this job at least 10 years. Cool dude, has lots of tats.

Anyway, she had recently bought into the complex and didn't want to see him with the gun on his belt. We laughed her out of the room...literally.

I think 1/3 is asking way too much. I wonder how many women out there are regularly packing? One out of a hundred, maybe?

I carry every single day. Best part about being a teacher in Utah. We have a full time officer at the school but he can't be everywhere at once.

My dad told me when I was a teenager that some cops are what they call "short stick"...just waiting to bust the head of some lowlife. He told me to always be polite and do what they say. He also told me if I'm pulled over, put my hands on the wheel and sit still...no "shuckin' and jivein' ".

You think maybe this cop feels awful about what he did? He just might, and he has to live with it. Then again, maybe he went home and held his gun in one hand while jerkin' off with the other. Some people have already made that decision, huh?

For those that are truly outraged about this, they should keep an eye on the news in Atlanta for when details about what happened came out. Perhaps particular attention to this cop and if he issues a truly heartfelt apology, eh?
