Wearing my new snow boots

I've been banned from wearing snow boots / snow shoes for the remainder of winter! :frustrated:

Went snowshoeing Saturday and found the only hole along the trail, resulting in a fractured ankle compounded by a torn ligament! :wallbash:

Ohhh dude that really sucks.

Hope you heal quick and I hope they gave you some really good drugs.

Thanks, all! I only promised to stop snow shoeing or any strenuous foot-based activity. This will not stop my upcoming ride in Nevada mid-Feb.

Hurts like hell, but provided I stay off it and stay on my machine, I should be good to go.

As for downtime, I was told to expect at least 60 days in this leg brace thing.

60 days is a long time to hobble. Good that you can still ride or it would be really tough. Take care and best wishes on a fast recovery.

Morning Bogley... how did you all sleep? I actually slept great last night. Time for some coffee.

Hey for those of you following the winter fest thread. Skiing has been canceled in the daytime. Only Night skiing and sadly I won't be able to join. But I will see everyone after at dinner.

Thanks for asking, Blueeyes. I slept like a baby but not long enough. I must curb my need for useless internet knowledge that keeps me up until 11 p.m. :ne_nau:

Meanwhile, I am looking for some living room furniture - a couch and a love seat - so if anyone has any suggestions as to where I can find decently priced stuff, let me know :2thumbs:

BRUTE- Get to feeling better. Sorry to hear about your injury. :2thumbs:

So folks, I am home today with a sick kiddo.......it's his third day of not being well. Hubby stayed home with him yesterday. So today was the trade. I didn't sleep well b/c he was up and down most of the night with fever and stomach issues. I am beat. I plan on spending today attempting to get organized for my road trip to SLC since I am home doing not much of anything. ALSO, send good JUJU my way so I don't get sick. I've lysoled and bleached the hell out of everything. I'm not going to get sick, I'm not going to get sick....... :lol8:

Made it 15 min late to a meeting at WSU. Ran out of there and just picked up the snowshoes!! Confirmed reservations at Tona's, Confirmed reservations at Bohemian.

Talked to Jeff.. he says we can hike to the bottom of Strawberry Gondola in about 1 hours. Eat, have a few beers and then finish the loop. So glad he and Janet are going with us.

I am still cleaning house like mad, need to go grocery shopping, stock up on beer, pick up shampoo, pick up coffee from Salt Lake Roasting Co., make it to work by 5pm, (PRAY THE MACHINES ARE NICE TO ME TONIGHT!!!) and hopefully slide into a seat next to Alison by 10pm at Bohemian! From reading this, Id say your too young and naive.
Let me see if I can jade you up a bit.

Do you think that company would care about you?
would they go out of their way to help you if you needed it?
Its common practice to give 2 weeks notice to a company before you leave.
Never do this! They would not come to you and say "hey, we are laying people off in 2 weeks, your one of them, so do what ya can to prepare for it"
You give two weeks notice and they assume youll be lazy, well they were a good employee but now they are leaving? have to beat them like a rented mule to get anything out of them!

If you planned on quitting on april first, do so. They wouldn't stop any of their plans to help you out, I certainly would not stop any of mine to help them out either.

Now there are exceptions to this, my wife works for a company that has gone out of their way to help her out.
Money, loans with no interest to get her shit together when she was down, a guy who has found out he has cancer and they paid off the land he has a trailer on so his daughter will not have to end up homeless after her dad dies. He is rarely at work these days as he is in treatment, he still gets paid with no vacation, just as if he is coming to work.
An employee who had a 2 month old baby die an couldn't afford a burial.
They paid for it in total, and paid time off for that parent, and the funeral home, the casket, all of it, then sent flowers as well.
They figured out it would be cheaper to switch to a poorer insurance program for its employees. Now there is a 3k deductible that must be met before her insurance pays one cent each year.
Hr company now not only pays the 100% of her cost to have insurance, they also have employees bring in the bills from hospital stays or doctor visits and then cut the employee a check to cover that till the 3k is met.
They are still getting off cheaper than they had been with the better insurance, but helped out employees rather than just take all that savings and pocketing it. matching 401k dollar for dollar to 5% and 50 on the dollar after that up to 9%.
There are companies that car about the employees, but they are rare. If that company is one of them, quit the other job and stay there! if not, do what ya want when ya want, they would do it to you.

Naive I am not.... this job is more then just a job.

For one I have a student in this clinic that is currently in my online class and has been accepted to our online program.

Two, I plan on using this clinic for student rotations for our on campus program. NO BURNING BRIDGES!!! No matter your age you should never burn bridges it is dumb and imature.

Three the economy sucks right now... who knows if I will get to keep my lovely job here a Weber. Should I have to leave, I want the best options and in my line of work... lab directors and supervisors talk to each other. I would hope that when I do give my notice... that if I ever asked my lab director for a letter of recommend she would be thrilled to write one.

Where I am at now and where I plan to go is all about who you know! Contacts baby and I need good ones.

Besides I love the job... just not the extremely long Mondays!

Well I am off to SL and the lab... may the Axym and Vitros be in good moods today.

Ahh yeah!! I've really only had 2 careers in my life. The rest have been "just jobs". But the only reason I got either of those careers is by not burning bridges at my "just jobs". Contacts contacts contacts.... Those are the only things that will open up the big doors later in life. Even if you have the cool title. Someone who will vouch for ya in the bosses ear works wonders. They won't do that if they know you left on a moments notice. It would reflect poorly on them.

Interesting factoid: My current boss pulls in over 250k/yr. But back in the day when we were techs making probably 45k/yr.. if we were lucky, we both got laid off on the same day, exact same time. He called us in his office and said "we I'm shrinking down and have to let ya guys go" even though we were the only techs pulling in corporate accounts. He wanted to just do "mom and pop" stores with no T1's or Pri's even. He said centrex lines were the way of the future.. LOL Then he had another tech drive us home with all our tools and tried to get us to join Amway (pyramid scheme of the day). Anyways we had some rough times ahead, this was just after 911. He had 3 kids, a mortgage and I was just single and lived with 3 guys and my only major expense was $300 rent. I lent him a little money to cover his bills a bit. He took some time but paid it back, no biggie. I always knew though he had a strong work ethic and would land on his feet. Anyways, years and years later he ends up being my boss and decides what my starting salary with Oracle will be. Hmmmm maybe the maximun allowed amount? A little help goes a long way, is all I'm saying.

You don't know what the future holds, find some co-workers who are motivated and no matter how crappy the job is, never ever burn a bridge. It will pay dividends in the future if they know they can trust ya.

So last week I found out that one of the girls I work with in the SL Clinic is pregnant. She is due in April! :frustrated: She hid that well for 6 months. I can't leave them a man down (or women in this case) so now I have at least 17 more ALL day Mondays and Fridays before I am done with this second job. Guess I will work until the end of May.

From reading this, Id say your too young and naive.

Hm wow! After spending time with Chere, I'd say she's not too young or naive. In fact, I see the complete opposite in her. Wise beyond her years! She's one of the most diligent, ambitious and driven people that I know. Not only is she on top of her game, but she has a work ethic that I think a few of us on here can learn from. Holding two jobs while being a single mom? Hell that's huge! Her future actions are a very wise move for her career advancement and not naive at all. Just had to go to bat for my girl. :2thumbs:

Well having never met her, or doing any research on her, I made my (admittedly bad) guess based on that she had ideals and wanted to protect the company she was working part time for.

Her reasons make sense, I stand corrected. Sometimes, there is a reason. Im just too jaded based on my own experiences I guess.

There are a few things very very high on my list of things I love.
1 is my wife another is my man plumbing.
Should I start researching you, I would likely lose both.
I hope you understand, I simply can not research you. From teh sounds of it, it would only send me insane on top of causing physical harm to me, and making me single. That is just one more good reason to a growing list of reason to not make you a research subject.

Well I meant research by looking into past posts, trying to figure out your age, your hobbies, work place, anything.
When I referred to wrecking the man bits, i was referring to what would happen to me from my wife, should I embark on such an endeavor.
The standards part of your post...that does make me wonder...Only a girl with no standards could be interested in me?
I used to seek out those girls, I had a sixth sense for them ya know. However about 5 years ago ( not yet but the 27th of this month will make five years) I gave that up, found one I wanted, one worth having instead of one worth having for an hour or two or a night, and have been kept ever since. She moved in with me about 4 years ago. I refer to her as my wife, but shes not, not yet anyways, she has a big ass ring, she did say yes, we have just not gotten around to actually putting it on paper, sometime this summer in Vegas, with a trip to Yellowstone right after, and if I get my way, a trip after that to San Diego and Mexico. then it will be official.
I thought she had standards? I was even happy that I met them!
I am a bit confused, but I think you might have hurt my feel bads

The second thing that we have to get straight is my name.
People here call me gravity because of the nic on the screen.
Had I known for sure that Id like it here when I signed up Id of used another name. Nearly all my internet names relate to gravity, I am a climber, gravity is a harsh reality that has show n me many many times she is a harsh mistress, thats all.
If I could go back to my sign up and change the name, Id of used my real name as I hate to think I will be meeting anyone from here and have to say uhh yeah, Im gravity, how ya doin?
Its Chance, just plain ass chance.
A shitty name to grow up with, but just fine once you get to life past high school.
Both of these little spiels I just gave you, they are not directed at you, they are for anyone, I screw around and joke a lot, and the name is chance.
I keep trying to get the wife to check out the sites, she refuses to climb, but is avidly outdoors, she resists, but one day I shall talk her into it, an any future bogley events I am lucky enough to attend she will be with me. She would be Julie.
Now I was NOT KIDDING when I said she would wreak havoc and mayhem on my goodies before removing them, that was the honest truth.

I'm feeling very mortal right now...my 'bestest guy friend' from high school died of a heart attack at the age of 44. He is the first in our core group to go. I'm also realizing just how far I have roamed from home.

So, tonight I'm going to start planning my next trip to Utah. :five:

I've been cooking up a storm, last night and this morning. I'd fallen off the "good eating" wagon lately, and ate a lot of crappy food while at work (and at home, honestly). My weight and blood pressure were showing the effects... So it's time to cook up some good, healthy food, and put single portions in the freezer for work.

Made a huge pot of palak paneer and a huge pot of paneer makhani last night - there's 16 meals.

This morning, I'm simmering a big pot of chana (chickpeas) to make some chana masala.

Look at you, all hawt! :2thumbs: Hang on, that was probably sexist. I'm just saying lookin' good, is all. (And doin' smart stuff is extra hawt...)

I was wondering why you would protest the protesters for same sex marriage, and realized when I saw the the pics that they were protesters against same sex marriage. Aha!

Sounds like a neat way to spend the day. Can't quite make out the sign - what's the project about?

I just want to bitch slap the protestors. But that's another story. Girl! Loving those boots! HOT! Those are the ones you showed me at your house right? So cute!

I SHOULD be going to bed right now. But I've been up creating my mom's invite to her 60th bday party. I am going to Houston in a couple of weeks to celebrate.

*a little secret*- I get more ink slapped on me tomorrow. YAY! Only Chere has seen the drawing. :2thumbs: YAY FOR HAVING FRIDAYS OFF. It's been a long ass week.

I am still sick - going to see the doc at 9:30 a.m. I could not sleep the last two nights due to congestion and headache. I don't take any meds except vitamins. However, tonight I bought some scotch and I feel this will help me sleep tonight :naughty: Plus I get to have a drink before the doc puts me on antibiotics, heh.

As a frequent blood donor (actually, platelet & plasma donor) I assumed it meant finding antibodies in the donor's blood, but I looked it up. I had no idea that the recipient was tested for antibodies that would react to antigens in the donated blood - am I getting that right? The references I found were fairly dense.

From the other end of things, I just read a couple of days ago about a young girl who was receiving platelets, and died of a minor bug received via a donor. Very tragic, and it really drove home that I'd better be feeling well before - and after - making a donation!

You are right. All donor's and recipients are checked typed for the antigen/antibodies. Any time a donation is done the donor and recipent samples are cross matched for compatibility.

Blood products can be contaminated and it is best not to donate if you are feeling under the weather.

I am not much of a blood banker. It was a foriegn language to me, but I find the topic fascinating. However one of our very newest memebers to Bogley is now our Blood Bank teacher here on campus. So if you have any pressing questions ask Janet!

I wish I would have gone to bed last night at a decent time. I was pouting because there is new snow and I wasn't going to get to play in it. However I have the BEST mother ever. She told me this morning to leave my naughty little girl with her and she would make her wash walls (grandma was already going to be doing this chore today) while I got to go ski!

Today is the 14th and this is my 14th time going to SNB. :rockit:

Do you know how much snow the Basin got. I'm skiing today and trying to decide... Beaver? or Basin?

Edit:

Well since the Basin won't update its snow report it looks like I'm going for the Beav. Season pass verses a +- $75 day at the Basin.

Have fun today!

Getting dressed, packing a bag; going snowshoeing with Josh and Cody this morning. Not even sure where; Josh planned it this time, somewhere near Mill Creek, I think.
...Need to remember that bottle of wine.
