If they came I missed em...I never hear about concerts til after the fact :ne_nau:

Git with it, man! Maybe I'll start posting concert dates on this site in the hopes of finding friends to go...couldn't get anyone to see Battles last weekend other than some people from work. Kinda feels like work whenever they're in my sight, so...

Anyway, Deftones played two consecutive nights at 'Venue: JUne 23, 24. Sorry you missed it.

While looking up those dates, i discovered the Hold Steady was here in May...

D'oh!

My wife told an abridged version Alice's Restaurant in a story telling festival while she was in college. It turns out that the 60th anniversary of Pearl Harbor is not a good day to tell an antiwar story when the majority of judges are wearing American flag lapel pins and there are several WWII veterans in the audience.

Since I'm at work for the next 9 hours I've queued up the following binge:

Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, AM, Sky Blue Sky, and Summerteeth by Wilco, yes, I'm on a Jeff Tweedy binge.

Here is a little light reading from wikipedia

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Tweedy

My favorite part (aside from the fight with Jay Farrar). Reprise told them to get lost.

Yankee Hotel Foxtrot was originally scheduled to be released on Reprise on September 11, 2001 prior to the band's departure from Reprise. Seven days later, Tweedy decided that he would stream the entirety of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot on Wilco's official website.[37] Over thirty record labels offered to release Yankee Hotel Foxtrot after the departure from Reprise was official.[38] One of the thirty was Warner Brothers affiliate Nonesuch Records, who signed Wilco in November 2001. AOL Time Warner paid Wilco to make the album on Reprise, gave them the record for free, and then bought it back on the Nonesuch label.[39] The album was released on April 23, 2002 to significant critical acclaim, including being named the best album of the year by The Village Voice.[40][41] The album became the biggest hit of Jeff Tweedy's career and was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America for selling over 500,000 copies

I've found a few additions to my play list, some that even surprised me.

Weezer. I always thought they were a decent band that got a bit of air play but that there was nothing special. Boy was I wrong. They're gold. I hit Graywhale and picked up Maladroit, the Blue Album, and the Green ablum.

Dave Matthews Band. I know, I know. DMB has been a staple for years, but I wasn't really sold (mostly because of the fiddle player). That was until I heard a live album. He could still use some work in the studio, but I'd pay full price to see him live.

KT Tunstall. I'm as surprised as you. After hearing that pile of crap "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" song ad nasaeum on the radio for the past two years I never thought I'd buy her album. Well, if I was her I'd slap my manager. She's an amazing musician and has put out some great albums. Why they chose the crappiest two songs to release as singles is beyond me.

How did I learn about all this musical goodness? :hail2thechief: www.pandora.com

I also bought The Police: Message in a Box and Squeeze: Greatest Hits.

I am a patient boy
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait
My time is like water down a drain
Everybody's moving,
Everybody's moving,
Everybody's moving, moving, moving, moving
Please don't leave me to remain
In the waiting room
I don't want the news
I cannot use it
I don't want the news
I won't live by it
Sitting outside of town
Everybody's always down
Tell me why?
Because... they can't get up
Ahhh... Come on and get up
Come on and get up
But I don't sit idly by
Ahhh...
I'm planning a big surprise
I'm gonna fight for what I want to be
I won't make the same mistakes
Because I know
Because I know how much time that wastes
And Function
Function is the key
To the the waiting room
I don't want the news
I cannot use it
I don't want the news
I won't live by it
Sitting outside of town
Everybody's always down
Tell me why?
Because... they can't get up
Ahhh... Come on and get up
Up for the waiting room
Sitting in the waiting room
Ahhh...
Sitting in the waiting room
Ahhh...
Sitting in the waiting room
Ahhh...
Sitting in the waiting room
Ahhh...
Tell me why?
Because... they can't get up

Had tickets to that show too. So glad I went out to Denver for the Mile High show last summer. I understand the cancellation, it was the day of Leroy's funeral, but I was disappointed that they couldn't reschedule. I really hope they put SLC on the tour this year...
You know he's announced the first 14 or 15 shows for the spring already? All east and south. Check The Official Site (http://tourdates.davematthewsband.com/) for dates.

Might be worth you time to check out Neil Diamond's last couple albums though; 12 Songs and Home Before Dark were both produced by rick Rubin (who also did Johnny Cash's The American Recordings albums). It's a stripped down sound, just Neil and a guitar mostly, damn good stuff.

And,
Sleep to Dream Her, still Dave Matthews.

Just watched High Fidelity with John Cusack and Jack Black's rendition of Let's Get It On got Marvin Gaye in my head.

You know, that movie is damn good until the whole happy-hollywood-ending bullshit. It should have ended with him alone in his apartment, surrounded by his records, wearing his headphones, listening to the Cure or Joy Division and talking to the camera about the top 5 songs to play when pretending everything is fine.
(Everything is fine. I'm just saying that would have been a better ending to the movie.)

You guys have a much bigger range than I do. I missed this whole genre of Music. Went right over my head. I don't know if I was just busy at that time or what. Could also be my age. Not picking on your music, just need to listen I guess.

I started with Peter, Paul, and Mary, The Everly Brothers, and the Kingston Trio. I had a small detour through Country and Classical. I made it all the way to about Queen and then I ran out of brain cells. I just go blank, Nada.

I remember reading an interview Bono gave talking about how surprised he was to hear someone would play that song at their wedding. It's a sad ****in' song.

I did a search; do we really not have a favorite lyric thread?

Is it getting better?
Or do you feel the same?
Will it make it easier on you now?
You got someone to blame
You say
One love
One life
When it's one need
In the night
One love
We get to share it
Leaves you baby if you
Don't care for it

Did I disappoint you?
Or leave a bad taste in your mouth?
You act like you never had love
And you want me to go without
Well it's

Too late
Tonight
To drag the past out into the light
We're one, but we're not the same
We get to
carry each other
carry each other
One

Have you come here for forgiveness?
Have you come to raise the dead?
Have you come here to play Jesus?
To the lepers in your head

Did I ask too much?
More than a lot.
You gave me nothing,
Now it's all I got
We're one
But we're not the same
See we
Hurt each other
Then we do it again
You say
Love is a temple
Love a higher law
Love is a temple
Love is a higher law
You ask me to enter
But then you make me crawl
And I can't keep holding on
To what you got
When all you've got is hurt

One love
One blood
One life
You got to do what you should
One life
With each other
Sisters and my
Brothers
One life
But we're not the same
We get to
Carry each other
Carry each other

One...
One...

Just finished watching Battlestar Galactica (reinvisioned series) and holy crap! what a awesome tv show, and I don't particulary like sci-fi movies/shows - but this is one HUGE exception, I was hooked from the beginning.

anyways, a few episodes from the series finale, I couldn't get this song out of my head for days....its called "kara remembers" or AKA the Final Five theme. little-heavy on percussion in the middle and I love it...obviously, within the context of the series, its just that much more enjoyable when this mystery (of this song) gets closer to being solved.

Enjoy...

HA HA! I'd all but forgotten about that song. It's a great one. Have you ever listened to The Flying Lizards? They are great in that same vein. Kinda hard to find their stuff now as it's pretty much all out of print, but it's great.

Anyway, the iPod is currently playing Prayers for Rain by The Cure.

Oh, but he's got time to schedule 3 nights in Vegas in December. I get it; it's just business and SLC isn't a big market but that shit about Dave being all about the fans is fiction.
You're right, that Radio City show is a great album but I listen to DMB a lot less lately...

Really like the new Paulo Nutini album. Was listening to that a few minutes ago. Going to bed now so it's off.

Abby and I both have the day off after traveling all weekend. It's a really grey, dreary day here, so we both slept in. Listening to Brian Eno and Harold Budd's The Pearl.
