My bro has a DVD that is newer and will play pretty much any format. I'm not sure which brand it is but this one is $34 and looks like it would do the trick for you..

Or you could just convert it to a playable file, then burn it to a DVD using something like WinAVI.
Edit: No no! get this one it has an USB interface so you can connect an external hard drive and bypass the middle man.Your safety is not my responsibility.

I already have the ability to burn AVI onto a DVD in a playable format (Nero 9). What I would really like is to be able to plug a memory stick into a device, DVD player, TV and play directly from that.
There are a couple devices out that can almost do it.... I think Apple TV can do it but you have to convert the AVI to an Apple format.
There is a really cool device out called Ruko, that can almost do it, except you have to convert the AVI into MP4... if the Ruko could do AVI I would have already bought one. My deal is if I have to convert I might as well just burn to disc.

If you have a flat screen TV, you should be able to plug your computer into it with a monitor cord and an audio cable. I have a couple of USB ports on my TV so I just plug my external drive into it and play away- no conversions required.

Shane, first of all, what's your tv Mae and model?
2nd, on your pc or Mac, do you have a VGA, s-video, hdmi, or dvi connector? And those can be found on your motherboard or actual video card outputs.
From there it's easy...●Canyoneering 'Canyon Conditions' @ www.candition.com

The TV I watch the most is a Panasonic 50" plasma... I would have to look up the model, its a couple years old but it does have HDMI ports... (Also have a 42" Visio LCD and a 36" Sony LCD).
But hooking up my computer to my TV is NOT easier then burning a DVD.... I already know how to hook the computer to the TV... I want simple...
I'm liking bbennett... just plug the jump stick into a USB port, that's what I really want. So I guess, which TV manufacteur support that? I also have Direct TV, they should just put a USB port on the box..

Pc to tv is the simplest in my IT experience. No conversion, no burning, no copying to flash drives.
What you could do is get a PS3 and pop in your flash drive and it will work.
Easiest is way is to get a VGA cord and connect both and extend your display. The click on the file, and there you go...●Canyoneering 'Canyon Conditions' @ www.candition.com

But I don't want to run my computer to watch TV.... if I wanted to do that I'd just stream through my xbox.
Maybe I should rephrase my orgianal question... what I really want is a simple way to watch an AVI on a jumpstick over my TV.
I know I'm being lazy... its really hard to beat just burning to a DVD. Vuze even does everything for you.... It downloads the AVI and burns it to a disc with only two button clicks. And I don't pay for blank DVD discs, my problem is I have literally a couple thousand DVD disc's stacked around the family room TV.

I don't know if they all support it, but I've got a newer 55" Samsung LED. My buddy's got an 09' Samsung and his has USB ports as well. I think I remember seeing ports on my kids Xbox 360 and Wii. Maybe a recon trip to Best Buy is in order.

You could try this:
http://www.getusb.info/movies-from-u...hanks-sandisk/
And the Samsung TV Series 5 and 6 all have USB ports, and will play not only .divx but 1080p .mkvs as well.
But I think the best TV I found that is really, really impressive is the Samsung 55" Series 6500 LED TV.All for $2800....geez.

Yeah... this is more what I was looking for.
And with that help I found this, which is almost exactly what I was looking.
Nbox

and it's only $29.

Apple TV plays MP4. That's how I roll. I can play any of my movies off my main computers library to my TV (over the air) through my Apple TV and at $99 you cant go wrong. I am almost done encoding all my DVD's. It is SO much easier then loading a DVD or finding the damn thing in my crib.
Apple TV is wireless, so you just connect it to your network like a laptop. Then you plug an HDMI cable into your HDTV...simple.

Watched "The Fighter" over the weekend. It was by far the best movie I have seen in a long time.
Also saw 127 Hours, it was pretty good but not awesome. Certainly worth watching.
And... I've been watching the first season of Archer.... dang.... that show has some funny stuff that really cracks me up.
