One of the segments on NPR last week was a short interview with some black dude that grew up in a town with one of those statues in it. He said it never bothered him growing up and that quite frankly, the "black community" has "bigger fish to fry" than get all riled about statues. I was surprised they aired that one.

Statues are easy victims. I really don't get it, either...but I lived in norther Florida, North Carolina and Virginia between '74-'78 and I think it's mostly tied to a sort of "romantic" notion of the Old South. The rebel thing.

They just released the police body cam footage of the Floyd arrest...so you can see all that went down before the knee thing.

The guy was freaking out...he was cuffed but wouldn't get in the car. The cops probably should have called an ambulance and had him strapped to a gurney...hindsight is 20/20 with this one. That's the biggest mistake the cops made, IMO...they tried too hard to manhandle the guy like any other punk but he was clearly out of it...foaming at the mouth.

There is no way they're going to convict Chauvin of deliberate murder. They're going to freak when he beats the rap. Not sure if people seeing the entirety of the encounter would have changed much of anything (in the minds of some), but seeing it all gives more context to it, that's for sure.
