Dang, I had almost forgotten about this thread.

Nope, but good guess. Not on a peak, this is a trail up that canyon. More like a saddle in the trail.

Scott P
10-03-2011, 06:26 PM
Not on a peak, this is a trail up that canyon.

I see. I meant the peak in the photo, rather than the point from which is was taken. I should have read the question better.

Since I think it is Thayne Peak as viewed from the northeast, I would have to go for near White Fir Pass from the photo was taken. Perhaps the Bowman Fork Trail (or the very nearby Elbow Fork to Terraces trail)?

My initial though was the trail to Lambs Canyon Pass, but Thayne Peak looks too close.

Dr. Nebz
10-03-2011, 10:34 PM
Perhaps the Bowman Fork Trail

Bingo! This pic was taken on the saddle before Baker Spring on the Bowman Fork Trail. Awesome Scott P- you are up!

In many ways, this could be a hard one to identify since not many climb it, but in one way identifying it is going to be quite easy, provided one is old enough.

My answer to a previous post could help you :
"I am pretty sure that some people who visited the site on my picture have taken the Hole in the Rock road before."

And you, zzyzx, should have a good chance to find this place even if you have never been there.

The weather was overcast so I added some contrast on my picture and in the process it also added some more color : in the sun these rocks are less red and more brownish

Another clue about what I wrote before: "I am pretty sure that some people who visited the site on my picture have taken the Hole in the Rock road before."
These people who have probably visited the place displayed on my picture after traveling the Hole in the Rock road were brave mormons pionners.

I know that the mormons headed from SLC to Bluff area, but I've never been there.

This was the clue as these rocks are quite dfficult to identify. Recapture Pockets seems to be popular among some German fans of the Southwest.

How long have those ramps been there?

Since 1930 or the early 1930's. They were probably built by the Tidwells and it is assumed that it was built from parts from the abandoned oil well from Phillips Petroleum (the well was abandoned in 1929).

I recognise the newest photo, but I'm leaving for Thanksgiving weekend so will let someone else answer and post a photo.

Yea, after being introduced to the Jeep Safari in '91, spent many a weekend 4-wheeling, motorcycle/atv riding and hiking all over that country. Still have many places that I have yet to see.

OK, let's try someplace a bit greener.

No, not in Dinosaur.

Yes; I wanted it to be somwhat different/challenging, but not too hard or isolated. I'm guessing the vast majoirty of Bogley members have seen this feature, but from below.

If no one else guesses by tonight, perhaps post the answer and your new photo. I may go camping tonight, but this is undecided and either way I'll be gone tomorrow, so answering it will keep the ball rolling.
