Thread: Do you wear a mask?

Does anybody else get in a situation where nobody else is wearing a mask or very few? Then you feel kinda weird having one on...
My wife and I went over to the Apollo Burger to grab a bite. There are clear signs on the door like everywhere. Anyway, we mask up and head inside. So when we get inside we see a couple ordering without masks, then another couple enters without masks. The worst part? The girl taking our order wasn’t wearing one!
So what do you guys do in this situation? Ditch the mask? Beat people up or stand your ground?

Well, with all due respect, Scott...I wouldn't stand there with my thumb up my ass tryin' to figure it out.
It's simple...ditch the mask. Take a trip in the "wayback machine"...y'know, back to what life was like before all this bullshit. Sounds like a place I'd hit frequently, quite frankly. The end of the world for some...

So I've recently visited 3 red states and 2 blue states... the difference between the states is light years apart.
In my humble opinion the lock down in the blue states is insane.... what is life and freedom if you can't do anything or go anywhere?

Spent the past week in Yellowstone. In our travels to all of the geysers and other sights we noticed that only about 50% of folks masked up. Outside the park in rural Idaho and Montana nobody was masked.
It's only "science" if it supports the narrative.

I don’t know. I don’t think I’ll ever be in that situation. I only wear one if there is a sign saying masks mandatory and an employee at the front door making you have one before you enter.
I was actually in the opposite the other day in Home Depot. Going in the front door, there was a sign requesting people to wear one. I went in,? Was only one of about 2-3 others without a face diaper.I learn from the mistakes of people who took my advice.

I call BS on that post. Only truth to that is yes people are wearing dirty masks. Gross.
But increasing pulmonary infections specifically with antibiotics resistant Staphylococcus aureus or as it is known MRSA. Mmmm makes my spidey senses go off.
We swab our students every year during our PCR lab which has them look specifically for MRSA. We rarely find a strain in one of our students. Also at the hospital many in patients noses are swabbed and sent to micro where we run a MRSA screening test. If patient is positive we have to call the nurse to let them know. It is not a critical result but a need to know. Anyway the amount of positives are significantly less than the negatives.
Masks don't kill you, or make you sicker, or any of that other bullshit propaganda. Yes they are a nuisance, yes they are uncomfortable. I definitely don't like wearing one around others myself.
But I will say from my own research into this virus. It truly is the best weapon we have right now for preventing the spread. We have a whopping 8 months of knowledge on this virus. Now 40-50% of us will get it and never know we had it. Some of us will get it and have mild to slightly less than severe disease. And some will land under the care of a doctor in ICU.
Some of what I have been researching points to lower innoculum of the virus or viral dose leads to less severe disease. Wearing the mask isn't 100% protection but if warn by one person or both it would absolutely decrease the viral dose you are exposed to. And if what preliminary research shows is true that would give you a mild case of COVID your body can easily fight off.
I personally am always wearing my mask out in public now. Even if the people around me are not. I still don't like it and this is a change in my attitude towards masking than in the beginning. In the beginning I thought it was ridiculous. Sadly I have found myself driving down the road in my car with the dam thing on and I think to myself great I look like one of those idiots as I take it off.
I also will not shame anyone for not wearing one. Or get in a huff about it. The way people are reacting to this mask or no mask thing is stupid.
I am excited to see what our seniors pick for their senior research projects this year. I bet most of them will center around COVID.

"Mask Mouth" is real and is starting to become a serious health issue.

All of it preventable if you:
Remember to drink water.
Remove the mask when not in the presence of people.
Breathe through your nose. Which surprisingly would cut down on fowl smells from your mouth.
Wear clean masks.
Come on Ice...you keep telling me not to buy into fake news. This is nothing more than fake news. Spun to support those who are against masks. You are smarter than this.

Oh and I love this quote from the article @Iceaxe
On the bright side, the dentists say that they’re packing in breath-conscious patients who might otherwise neglect their dental health during the pandemic.
So are the dentist really seeing more dental problems because of people wearing masks
...or are they seeing more problems like cavities because now that people are wearing face masks suddenly they are aware of their own nasty breath from cavities they have had for awhile now. Cavities that cause bad breath don't develop in 8 months. And we have only been wearing masks for less than that amount of time.
This article I declare
FAKE NEWS!!

Funny how it's only fake news when it goes against your beliefs.
At least half the people I see wearing masks are doing it wrong. If they can do something as simple as properly install a mask what makes you think they are smart enough to follow the list of rules you presented?

Funny how it isn't fake news when it supports your beliefs.
I have told you before I take my news from many sources.
I don't take any article at face value. I do my research. Everyone spins a story to their values. Even the most objective reporter does.
I agree half the population in America wear a mask improperly. And they won't follow that simple list. Not my problem if they want to exasperate their cavities. But wearing a mask isn't causing them. Lack of good mask hygiene is.
The fact remains that the only current tools we have for preventing the spread of this virus and any new novel viruses are:
Edit 8/17/20 I have never believed you can stop the spread so the following list are tools you can use to slow the spread or best protect yourself and limit the viral dose.
Wash your hands!
Clean surfaces frequently
Social distance (which sucks! This to me is harder than anything else)
Wear a mask.
That is it. Do it. Do part of it. Don't do it. Complain about it. I don't really care. Those are your basic tools.

Oh geez...
Wisconsin state agency tells employees to wear masks even during Zoom calls
“Also, wear your mask, even if you are home, to participate in a virtual meeting that involves being seen — such as on Zoom or another video-conferencing platform — by non-DNR staff,” Cole said, according to the Sentinel. “Set the safety example which shows you as a DNR public service employee care about the safety and health of others.”

The best TV commercial I ever saw went like this:
It's in a conference room, and the guy at the head of the table says "Alright, that's the plan. Let's implement it". Everybody else in the meeting nods and exclaims in agreement except for one guy...he says "That's the worst idea I've ever heard".
The next scene you see is that guy standing in front of the office building with all his belongings in a box.
That guy is ME. There's a reason I ended up being self employed...thank God for that!
I would object to the mask during these zoom calls as being a pessimistic example...in other words, I'd advocate that we DON'T wear them to remind us that this virus is not going to rule our lives. Period.
I remember seeing pictures many years ago of all these asians in China wearing masks all over the place...remember the Olympics? They said it was primarily because of air pollution. I thought "My God, what a horrible way to live"...and here we are. It's almost like we got punked.
I've got a feeling that even after this virus runs it's course, we'll still see people running around with these vomit bags on their faces. Check out this picture...look at Grandma at the breakfast bar. A mask isn't going to protect you from that, baby. Life is full of chances.
The end of the world for some...
The foundation of paradise for others.
