Mormon leaders change rules against guns in church
Daniel Woodruff, a spokesman for the Utah-based faith, confirmed Monday that the church policy handbook had been changed after it was first discovered Saturday by a website that tracks church happenings. The prohibition also applies to concealed weapons holders.
"Churches are dedicated for the worship of God and as havens from the cares and concerns of the world," it says. "With the exception of current law enforcement officers, the carrying of lethal weapons on church property, concealed or otherwise, is prohibited."

Since not many members even know what is officially in the policy handbook, I don't think it's gonna make much of a difference. If you carried before, you'll just be more discreet about it now.
Criminals and crazed lunatics don't care what the Church's official policy handbook says either....just sayin'Last edited by rockgremlin; 08-26-2019 at 04:53 PM.
It's only "science" if it supports the narrative.

Jesus has your back, boys and girls.
Suddenly my feet are feet of mud
It all goes slo-mo
I don't know why I am crying
Am I suspended in Gaffa?

In case you missed it the LDS Church has begun pandering to the left and their ideas a lot lately in an effort to entice young adults to join the church. The LDS Church, like many churches, is having a difficult time keeping the young on the farm.
Personally I think it's a bad idea as it's alienating some of the older conservative members, but what do I know.
YMMV

It's not just the gun issue, if you step back and look at the church objectively you will see they made a left turn.

Would you be able to help me out and show a few examples of former Right-Wing principles that flipped and went towards the Left?

I'd just be wasting my time trying to explain it to you. But the LDS Church has always walked an interesting line as a conservative organization with socialist views.
If you really want to see it listen to how they now present the news and their values...
I'm not saying it's right or wrong, it's their church and they are welcome to do as they please.

unless they aren't
On a serious note though, I remember maybe 15 years ago, illegal immigration and the border was a hot topic with the "minutemen" that would go and volunteer on the southern border. The LDS Church made an announcement in some form that it's important to treat everybody with love and kindness, no matter their background or nationality.
Some saw this as "going Left", but only for those that were so entrenched in "all mexicans need to go back" frame of mind. This was not a political statement, it wasn't an opposition to fixing the border crisis. It was advice on how to treat those around us, and let the Law do what the Law is going to do.
Some would say just the opposite, that the church is a white nationalist Right wing organization, with "banning gays and blacks", when in all reality, gays are invited into every sunday church meeting just like anybody.
To label the church as moving Left or Right would be incorrect, and only an assumption.

I agree with Sombeech. Nah. The young adult age group that you refer to is always the hardest group to keep and the easiest group to convert. It has to do with their age, brain, and discovery of the "freedom" of being an adult. I am convinced that the motive for this statement as well as others that some would think are politically motivated is not to lean politically or even to "keep" anyone. In other words, I believe that they really could care less where society labels the decisions, but rather they are trying to do what they believe is good and right. The Book of Mormon, Another Testament of Jesus Christ has examples of both defending self, families and others to the death, and examples of laying down and being slaughtered. The motives behind each of the examples in the Book of Mormon are different and doctrinally based. Let me know when you want to sit down and I'll explain it to you.

There is nothing Left with the two top leaders wielding power in the Church at the moment. A simple google search of "Dallin H Oaks Devotional" will bring back plenty of links that demonstrate the church is not pandering to the left. Nelson and Oaks are ardent conservatives. Changing church from 3 to 2 hours isn't pandering to the left, it's just smart. Its the driest congregation on the planet.

I don't man. I once had to sit through an hour church meeting/baptism when I happened to be visiting family in KY. Picture about 50 old white Southern Baptists from KY in a tiny un-airconditioned church yammering on for an hour before a few people were "saved". It was brutal.
