40 kids??? Holy shit. How can any kid get any 1 on 1 time like that? Though it could be worst I guess. I was in Cambodia a while back and we went to a school that probably had 70 kids per class, and the kids were probably ranging from 6-10 years old. Though they also all played in a giant trash heap that was out the back of the school.

It's tough, but technology is helping out a lot. It depends on the School DIstrict but a lot of them now have 1 to 1 devices like the Chromebook laptop and iPads, one for each student. It's getting easier for the teacher to hurry and shoot a message to individual devices and get an idea of how each student is doing.
Students can answer questions in the classroom in new ways that avoid any public humiliation. Quick surveys can be asked the class to get an idea if everybody is up to speed with the current topic.
There are a lot of awesome advances with technology, but often it will be hindered by "old school pen and paper" style teachers that insist on the old methods, and the students with these teachers can suffer the consequences. You can't just fire a teacher because they haven't learned how to make a PowerPoint yet after 20 years. Anyways, I could go on and on, but some great things are available to students now, if the teacher is on board.

^^^^^^THIS
I don't know how I would manage to teach and assess any sort of reading or writing skills without technology, especially Canvas and Google Classroom. I make their worksheet, embed videos, articles, and various skill checks with hyperlinks in the assignment and away they go. These programs also allow me to watch them work and I can immediately stop a kid and provide direction when they're messing up.
It also has cut down on kids telling their parents I lost their assignments. I can point to the class page at the big NO SUBMISSIONS FOUND and tell them their kid is a liar. It's also good to have that copy of the assignment that I can show a parent when they ask why their kid scored low. All at the click of a button.Just 'cause it zips, don't mean it fits

If anyone is curious below I've linked an example of an assignment I did with seventh graders. They were learning about counterclaims and how to defend their own claims.

^^^ You should do another assignment like this asking if golf is a sport.
It's only "science" if it supports the narrative.

If you don’t believe socialism is a disease, will the effects of it change your mind?
Aho would believe bubonic plague would have a chance of breaking out in USA Today?

When people ask me, "Byron, why are you a conservative?" I say "The question is, why am I not a liberal?"
This is why. They talk the talk, but don't walk the walk. They tell you "Don't eat that" while they're swallowing a mouthful of it themselves.
They insist that we should all stand together for "justice"...yet I can't join these hyperemotional people screaming at the top of their lungs with their fists in the air when they straight up fail to acknowledge reality. The end of the world for some...

Yeah. Let’s turn our parks into homeless tent cities.
When they feed you the line about how they need to take taxes to build and maintain parks because they help the local communities and are essential for good mental health...I learn from the mistakes of people who took my advice.

What a crock of shite. Now all of the taxpayers whose taxes go to pay for maintenance and upkeep of the parks can go wade through human excrement and used needles.
I'd be outraged if I lived in Minnesota that's F'ed up.It's only "science" if it supports the narrative.

$140,000,000 is spent on homeless here in Denver every year. This has been going on for decades yet it's so bad they had a ballot measure last year that would let them camp anywhere they want...as long as they didn't block pedestrian access. Any public place.
Voters rejected it overwhelmingly, but it did get 3 out of 10 people voting for it. Close to downtown they do it anyway...out here in the "suburbs" they tent up in vacant lots and in the bushes. They like McDonals and near liquor stores. And pot shops, too.
I've listened to a lot of stuff about this on the radio, especially. People that work in the business of homelessness and even the "King of Caring" himself, the Mayor. These people avoid shelters because they can't bring their booze or drugs in with them. They sure as hell don't want to work, because jobs are offered and they won't take them.
"My best friend floats in the bottom of a glass". What a bummer to be so addled you can't even function. The end of the world for some...
