This is strange, it's not like it was 50 years ago, I mean look at this shee-hat. WTF
This comes down to the practice I mentioned prior, many of these same people cannot form their own opinion, or they don't dare to. First they must hear a topic, and then find out what "their side" says about it, then they will gladly take up a stronghold position on where the party does. These aren't independent thinkers. It's like the husband asking his wife if it's ok to laugh or clap at something.
I'm not accusing you, Scott, of this. You're clearly independent an intelligent enough to form your own opinion without the need to check if you're in line with your familiar sources. But man oh man, we sure do see this growing on both sides.

Obama did vote for a fence even during the Bush Administration. Here is the bill:
https://georgewbush-whitehouse.archi...0061026-1.html
Yes, Obama has said much about immigration and securing our borders. Here is what he said in 2014:
https://obamawhitehouse.archives.gov...on-immigration
Still, I am not aware of Obama ever saying a wall should be built. I know he has said a fence, tighter security, etc. I did phrase it in the form of a question just in case there was an off chance that he did say we should build a wall and I wasn't aware of it, but I still haven't ever seen/heard anything pertaining to building a wall from Obama. In the video you posted, he doesn't say anything about a wall. In the video makes statements about a fence, security at the borders, etc., but not the wall.
(PS, I'm not picking on you; I only questioned one statement).
And, yes, I already know that both sides are hypocritical. Pick your video:

I strictly oppose building a wall between U.S. and Mexico. Not because I believe it's immoral, but because quite simply it's an incredibly expensive and horribly ineffective option that just won't work -- at least not the way Trump believes it will.
Hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars devoted to building something that almost any motivated Mexican can thwart or avoid with ease. No thanks. It's only "science" if it supports the narrative.

The wall is a lot more than just illegal aliens, it's also about drug interdiction and controlling your borders among other things.
I don't know exactly what the answer is but there are certainly places that a border wall makes sense.... or... you can deal with the problems that come with an open border, pick your poison.

There's all kinds of nasty shit coming over the border. I think these walls and tighter security is a must. I'm mostly concerned with terrorists or agents of other nations just getting right in. I think we've been dodging a bullet with out southern border for a long time. We've got a third world/corrupt nation right next door that might soon be getting a lot more socialist...meaning even more jacked up. Check out the politics down there.

Canada huh? What makes you say that?
When is the last time you were in Mexico? Did you travel outside the touristy areas? I was in La Paz in January and it's a shithole. There is fun, outdoorsy stuff to do there, but the city is a filthy mess away from where the gringos hang out. Yes, I know you've traveled the world and are infinitely wise with these things. Perhaps our eyeballs interpret things differently.
No need to respond to what I just said, Scott. Please ignore the question marks as I'm not interested in your focused on minutiae Professor Peterson opinion. I'm for "The Wall"...period.Suddenly my feet are feet of mud

It's a lot easier for terrorists to cross the Canadian border than the Mexican one.
When is the last time you were in Mexico? Did you travel outside the touristy areas?
https://www.summitpost.org/2017-trip-log/992318
Before that, the next most recent trip was 11 months earlier. See the December trip log:
https://www.summitpost.org/2016-trip-log/963348
The only touristy area we visited was the Aztec pyramids. We almost never go to touristy areas.
Perhaps our eyeballs interpret things differently.
Also, the neighborhoods I grew up in and that my parents still live in aren't any better than an average neighborhood in Mexico.
A lot of illegal immigrants cross the border into Mexico because the standard of living is higher there than it is in places such as Guatemala and Honduras. A lot of counties in latin America consider Mexico to be a "rich" country.
So to sum it up, Mexico is not as developed as the US. It is still more developed than much of the world.
I still wouldn't want to live in much of Mexico because of the corruption and crime rates in many of the areas. If corruption could be curtailed, it would be a much better place.

Looks like no more Camelback, Gyro or Bell at REI for a while. The funny thing about boycotts like this is how few independent brands there actually are in the outdoor industry. A huge portion of the brands are just subsidiaries of larger investment firms. If REI started digging into all of their suppliers I would bet they would find a lot worse connections than ammunition sellers.
