Partners needed for Pandora's Box
Greetings,
I am planning to do Pandora's Box in Capitol Reef September 19th. I am looking for two or three others that would like to join.
I am an advanced level canyoneer and have all the equipment to complete the canyon. I am specifically looking for at least one other advanced level partner other partners are optional but a total group size of three or four would be great. Please respond to this post or private message me if you are interested. I have found some great partners on here in the past.
I plan to camp in the area Sept. 18th and get a 5am start on the canyon on Sept 19th and come out the "upstream climb-out" over the mesa. Here is a link to the beta http://www.bluugnome.com/cyn_route/c...f_pandora.aspx. It is an advanced canyon for small sized canyoneers. The trip time is 11-14 hours.
Thanks,
Summitseeker

Good one.
Concur with Mr. Jones here. Pandora's is a relentless and brutal canyon. It's a marathon stretch of slots with plenty of opportunity to get into trouble. When I did it back about 15 years ago we had assembled a virtual dream team. We got through the entire stretch without incident, but we were completely frazzled by the end.
Things I would recommend to do Pandora's:
1. Be in good shape. Can't stress this enough. Your cardio better be on point - you'll be very active for up to 10+ hours.
2. Heavier set folks are going to struggle. There's a spot where the slot pinches and corkscrews at the same time. Some of the thicker set guys in our group were really struggling through there. Took a group effort to get them through. That expended a lot of energy and time.
3. There is some high stemming over a silo that's got some high penalty points if you screw up. Stemming skills should also be on point. And hopefully no fear of heights. Especially for that final rappel.
Have fun...be safe!!It's only "science" if it supports the narrative.

We did not end up doing Pandora's Box due to lack of availability of experienced partners. Thanks for all the advice. I will try again next season.
