Snowshoeing Alpine Pond Trail on Cedar Breaks
What a gorgeous day for a snowshoe hike! In an effort to meet people here in St. George we organized a snowshoe hike at Cedar Breaks National Monument on the Alpine Pond Trail. To get to this trail, drive on Highway 143 until approximately 3 miles south of Brian Head where the road turns at the junction with 148 (Cedar Breaks Scenic Drive) at the closed gate there will be a small parking area carved out of the snow.

Looks like a lot of fun (esp. going to the yurt), sans the lung burn and tired kiddos. The views of Cedar Breaks are stupendous! I can only imagine how much everyone was sucking wind if you're used to 2,800' and then go to 10,500' with cold air ! That's about the altitude we've been snowshoeing recently (with Durango being about 6500'), and it always wipes us out if we have to go through powder. If it's a groomed trail or packed snow, it's not as bad, but still harder than hiking.
Hopefully, your kids didn't have such a rough time they won't want to go again - that would be a bummer!Sonya

Good to know peeps from St George are doing more than snowmobiling up there. If you plan another trip after we get some more snow I would love to join in with my two older kids.
