The Squeeze 07-16-2011
Had a great time in the squeeze yesterday. Muddy Creek is about waste deep right now and the current is very strong. The hike in from Hidden Splendor required about 20 stream crossings. It was also pretty obvious that the area received a considerable amount of rain the day before. We had a nice non-threatening cloud cover during he hike in and throughout most of the canyon. The canyon was completely full of water and I was able to swim out of all the keepers up until the very end. The last 3 or 4 potholes are dry and one required about an 8' climb out. The static line which crossed over one of the keepers is also gone but is not necessary with the current water levels. The two of us were out by 4pm and the cloud cover was gone so we made the long hike out in 96 deg. weather.

What were your day time temperatures like with the cloud cover?

How were the bugs? I heard they were horrible last month.

We were just a few miles away at Zero Gravity the same day. The Cedar Gnats were horrendous. We had mosquito head nets or we would have gone nuts. It was OK once we got moving but the night was rough with both mosquitoes and gnats. There was no keeper as the canyon was full of water. 90 to 95 degrees tops, we actually did the canyon 2 times as it was so much fun with all the water..
