Sharkfin Tower
Sonny came for the first 11 days of the trip. How brave is he? He claimed that
if a SAR training hadn't interfered, he would have come for all 22 days. Based
on his performance, he could have handled it with ease. The guy is strong and
talented.......and a pleasure to be around.
Everyone had left except Aaron, Sonny and I and Sonny had 2 days. So we went up
to Boston Basin and then climbed Sharkfin Tower. We had been chased 2 straight
years with weather and Aaron was chomping at the bit. It has a tricky alpine
approach and 3 pitches of easy tech climbing in an unsurpassed alpine environ.
The perfect finale for Sonny. After the climb, we took the glacier down below
the crevasses and Sonny was kind enough to go down to camp and hike out on his
own, freeing Aaron and I at 3:30 PM to head back up the hill to squeeze in a few
more exceptional peaks before darkness. Thank you Sonny and we will see you up
there next year!
