decent, but inexpensive, point and shoot camera
I am a geologist and spend lots of time outdoors. I need advice on a decent point and shoot camera. I have been using a Sony camera for several years, but the kids got a hold of it and, well, now I need a new camera. Anyway, the biggest thing I REALLY want is for the camera to take "AA" batteries. I spend lots of time away from any source of electricity and can't/don't want to rely on a proprietary battery. So, let me have it! Thanks.

I'd stick with a canon powershot for under $200. That camera ^ listed above is nice, but almost $500.

i have an old optio s40 that i got at costco about 4 years ago. couple hundred bucks and it uses AA batteries. 4 gig sd card will hold hundreds of photos. theres lots of options out there similiar to it. i know there is now a waterproof model as well.
But if I agreed with you, we would both be wrong.
