Zero G - TR - 8/30/08
Just got done Zero-g - came down here with ambitious plans but one of the people in our group (not naming names....) is a fatty and Zero-G just ain't for him.
We completed the canyon ok - it's in good condition. We did it by head lamp and had a blast doing it. The water is warm and the weather was fine...
Of course - conditions will probably change drastically after the weather this weekend - but as of now it's in good condition.
We did find some evidence of some retards going through there at some point. There was some frayed webbing slung around the big chockstone prior to the narrow section towards the exit (not the little one at the end - but the one leading up to it) Someone came up with the world's most creative way of slinging a chockstone. (They actually slung a small wobbly rock and then ran the rope over the gigantic jagged one) We cut that webbing for two reasons - first, it was in a completely unnecessary spot - and by rapping there instead of staying somewhat high people are actually making their lives more difficult - and second - it was frayed and unsafe.
In any case - our plans were to fix a rope above the bomb-bay and then tomorrow morning go back and do an upcanyon excursion (up then back) but that will have to wait until one guy in our group goes on "The Biggest Loser" - the crux of going up zero-g would definitely be going back up the exit. The rest of it would be doable with a few tough spots.
In any case - the canyon is in good conditions and tomorrow morning it would be good for a romp - but you'd want to be out of there before the rain!-----
