'08 Zion Noobfest - Rap Practice with Shagster
So we did a little rappelling tonight up Farmington Canyon, just to get comfortable again.
Accadacca and I just got some new harnesses, Singing Rock's Rhythm, and mark and shad were with us also.
We drove further up the canyon to Snake Point? That was about 120' judging by the rope we threw down, but it looked like a pain to climb back up, so we came back down to this one, which was maybe 45' - 50'
Very easy to climb back up, and to access.

Well aren't you all special like that. Getting out there and practicing. What are you skeered for Noobfest?
No seriously, Great photos. Wished I knew of something closer to me to go play on like RIGHT NOW. I'm feeling rusty.
GOOD JOB BEECH! Oh and all the other people in the photos....great work. Looking forward to meeting all you folks this weekend.

One thing I figured out about canyoneering, watching someone rappel on a video is almost as exciting as lets say watching a brick move
Nice photos though.

So, what happens when the guy with the Prusik back-up above his rappel device gets stuck mid rappel, suspended in the air?
Start another thread?
Hee hee.
Biggest risk for the noob fest, in my mind, would be:
1) Noob losing control of rappel.
2) Noob getting stuck on rappel.
3) Not having a good lawyer and insurance.
One call, that's all...
Seriously, you guys have a great time and be safe!

But actually... shagster was saying that they had to do some drills with that thing. They'd let go of the rope to show how it cinches up and catches you.
He says it was a bugger to loosen up, too.

bachman,heden,klemheist,auto-bloc,french braid--
All are way more releasable hitches when weighted than a prusik.
But all are specific to rope diameter and/or body weight.(the ones mentioned can lock up if not set per each individual)
