    Tuweep to Willow Springs

In November 2018, I did a solo trip from Tuweep to Willow Springs, and then exited the esplanade out an obscure old route to the west and then hiked north across Tuckup Point and found a route down into Paradise canyon. Once I hit the main road i hitched a ride back to the ranger station. It was 4 days and 3 nights.

Looks like you timed your trip to be after a useful rainstorm :-)

    Thanks for the post.

Would there have been zero bugs on that trip? (it being in Fall)?

The trail that you took (or route) around the bench is not on National Geographics map - those maps have become mostly "eye candy"

Thanks to GaiaGps online I can play with different maps :-) [with a Premium subscription, which ain't much]

not on that loop. from willow springs there are two routes to the rim that i have done. one to the west and one to the north. the one to the north i did on a different trip in oct. 2018 and goes up the drainage in the middle of your image to above some cliffs and then goes left and up looking for a notch to the rim and then you can hike back to the tuckup trailhead. the route out on this trip is as described on my map.
But if I agreed with you, we would both be wrong.

most of the roads shown on the map have been closed for years to vehicle travel. you can still sniff them out and they are obvious in places. the do make travel a bit quicker than just bushwacking you way from a to b. and the tuckup trail itself is a loosely defined trail. more of a route actually. very few if any cairns which i like. and the few cairns i do find i have a tendency to kick over. oops. sometimes the only places you know you are on it is where it heads the various canyons. and no bugs that i remember. all my trips have been fall, winter or early spring. bugs have never been something i worry about.

I'm a cairn kicker, too. Excellent trip...I figured you'd find some cowboy stuff out there...any Indian stuff? They were all over the Grand Canyon.
