Right before the massive explosion, you can see an object come down from above from the right very quickly, what looks to be like a missle. There is this and several other videos floating around that show this quick flash of an object coming down and hitting the sight right before the huge explosion. I don't know if these are authentic, or doctored vids. But, many are insunuating that these vids suggest a missle strike.

Come and live in this area of the ME for a while, and you'll quickly see that there's nothing "FISHY" (as Sombeech suggests).

It's just good old-fashioned corruption and negligence and ignorance; there was no missile, no terrorism.

Man, you guys like your conspiracy theories. I work with rocket propellant/motors for a living (nearly 40 years now). I have only worked with AN containing motors once, for a very brief period of time. I have no idea how this stuff was being stored, but I'm sure it wasn't being monitored, or taken care of, or maintained, or anything. AN interacts with relative humidity. And if it is exposed to rust (maybe from the containers, maybe flakes from the building) or other metal oxides, along with high enough relative humidity, it can form a material that is extremely shock sensitive - as in a slamming door could set it off. At least that's what I remember from ~13 years ago. I also think salt in the air from the ocean could do something similar if the containers were leaky (and I'd bet my house they were in poor shape). Or if there were any kind of combustibles in the building that could come in contact (paper, cardboard, oily rags, leaky drums of oil - anything), that would be enough to cause this explosion, even without fireworks right next door. Lebanese officials might like the idea of a missile or some other form of sabotage because that might lessen their culpability, but you don't need it to get a tragedy like this. Negligence, incompetence, and some time are more than enough.

As soon as this happened I reckoned that explosives experts in our military would be able to zero in on exactly what it was just by watching the explosion...what kind of material, in particular.

The Israelis might have blown it up if there were significant weapons in there...but why risk the collateral damage? They could just wait until they were being moved and then drone 'em. They've actually been doing that for a while now.

Nah...it was an accident. Hopefully the next war we have with these boneheads doesn't come with "rules of engagement"...that way we can be out of there and done within a week. These guys seem really good at blowing themselves up.

I'm such a conspiracy nut, I posted the debunked explanation about 2 minutes later.

But that's faster than some of the US military Generals that suggested it may be an attack.

I can tell a lot less than you might think from the videos. I can see that it is a deflagration-to-detonation transition (DDT; you can read about this in Wikipedia). I can see the water and NO2 decomposition products. I can tell the NO2 from its color, but I looked for that when I heard it was ammonium nitrate. Same thing with the water. And I had to look some of this up to make sure because it's been a long time since I've had anything to do with this material.

I actually haven't seen that many detonations in real life. A couple, under controlled circumstances, and from a distance. And that's a really good thing.

I lean this way. A cargo sitting for 7 years? Wasting warehouse space and taxpayer money? Creating danger? That is govt, and especially socialist govt, at work.

A private company would have sold that off a week after the seizure.

Incredible! Look at that blast front blow out all of the windows in all of the buildings.

Pretty amazing that it only killed 200 people.
It's only "science" if it supports the narrative.

I would bet it killed more than that...not to mention thousands that were wounded.

I was reading the Wiki about the largest accidental explosions and this one is in the top 5, I believe.
