Thread: Do you wear a mask?

Hmmm that's interesting. A friend of mine went diaper-less to the Ogden WalMart a couple days ago and he was relentlessly harassed by for not masking up. He actually got tag-teamed by the door greeter, two different customers, and finally the manager after he was called to the scene.

My trick is...I'll wear a mask that is so ridiculously placed that it's basically making a mockery of proper mask placement. Never been harassed once. At this point, a bare face is a major trigger to anyone on the left.

A couple of weeks ago, the local Ace Hardware store took down the plexi dividers between the checkers and you. The checkers also stopped wearing masks. I'm shocked at how much better it feels to go in there. It's almost like they want people to come buy stuff from them again. I can't wait for everyone to do that.

Yes, I'm hopeful that most of this will kinda fade away. I do think that we'll be seeing masks somewhat frequently from now on. Those will be the true weirdos.

I'm willing to bet that in two years you are still seeing masks. There are a lot of crazy people out there and masks have become many of thems comfort zone.

I'm gonna start inventorying the places that have returned to normal. Here's what I have so far:

-Standard Plumbing in Ogden is 100% back to normal. No partitions, no warning signs on the door, etc.

    - 711 and Mavericks around here are back to normal.

    - Smith's is still in panic mode with signs on the door requiring masks for entry. About 25% of the shoppers are unmasked regardless.

-Costco is still in full panic mode, with masks required for entry.

I am in transition to moving to Panguitch, Utah. Nobody wearing masks anyplace, except for the tourists, but especially those from California.

    Minersville reservoir:

Guy fly fishing a bit away from me, tried talking to me.

I kept saying--huh?(not too unusual for me)

He takes off his mask and talks normal.

We were at least 50-75' away from each other..

Most fly fishin' dudes are weird anyway.

This really surprises me. Most folks in the outdoors that I've seen have all been naked-faced.

I ride my MTB 5 or 6 times a week. Lots of Salt Lakes area hikers and trail runners, 30-40%, are masked, but zero mountain bikers wear masks. I did notice the masks are slowing disappearing in the great outdoors last week.

Went to Boyle's Appliances in Ogden, and no masks.

Also, Cafe Zupas on 12th street and Wall in Ogden. They didn't have the mask sign on the door anymore, so we went in without them. Nobody cared and nobody else except the employees were wearing them.

A lot of business around me are doing this: Masks for employees, no requirement to wear and no comment to or about patrons and masks from employees. I think the intent is for business to appear caring for those who are still worried, but not enforcing any mask rule. Many customers are taking their mask cues from the employees but the mandate is not in place or enforced. I was in a furniture store and asked the question to an employee if masks were required since the employees were wearing and I was informed that customers could do as they please.

I’ve seen several businesses either change their signs from Masks Required to Mask Recommended, to completely removing all mask signs together (MTB shops).

Seriously, I'd love to know the back story to those poor band kids being forced to put those ridiculous and useless paper masks on their faces. Over zealous band teacher? Practical joke?

This seems to be the case at the places I've been for the most part. Eventually, I think it'll go back to what it was before, but I think there are going to be some people that just don't stop wearing masks. They've been so scared by this that they just can't seem to give them up. That's going to take time.

Did you hear about the peer-reviewed study done by Stanford University that demonstrates beyond a reasonable doubt that face masks have absolutely zero chance of preventing the spread of Covid-19? No? It was posted on the the National Center for Biotechnological Information government website. The NCBI is a branch of the National Institute for Health, so one would think such a study would be widely reported by mainstream media and embraced by the “science-loving” folks in Big Tech.”

    The actual study:

    Conclusion

The existing scientific evidences challenge the safety and efficacy of wearing facemask as preventive intervention for COVID-19. The data suggest that both medical and non-medical facemasks are ineffective to block human-to-human transmission of viral and infectious disease such SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19, supporting against the usage of facemasks. Wearing facemasks has been demonstrated to have substantial adverse physiological and psychological effects. These include hypoxia, hypercapnia, shortness of breath, increased acidity and toxicity, activation of fear and stress response, rise in stress hormones, immunosuppression, fatigue, headaches, decline in cognitive performance, predisposition for viral and infectious illnesses, chronic stress, anxiety and depression. Long-term consequences of wearing facemask can cause health deterioration, developing and progression of chronic diseases and premature death. Governments, policy makers and health organizations should utilize prosper and scientific evidence-based approach with respect to wearing facemasks, when the latter is considered as preventive intervention for public health.

I left religion 20+ years ago because I wanted to live in a rational fact based world. Masking has now fully entered the realm of religious belief and no amount of facts or data will dissuade the followers. Hell, a lot of the people admit that outdoors they are 100% pointless, but they still believe we should wear them as some sort of sign of solidarity. It's an absurd cult at this point. I can't even imagine living in an area with super high outdoor mask compliance.

I just got back from a few weeks in Florida, and indoors masks are still pretty much always required and worn. At least in St. Pete Beach. Once you went inland at all though no one wore them . It was nice. Caught a Rays game and compliance dropped to basically 0% once people sat down. A beer in the hand is a nice convenient excuse if anyone complains, but they didn't. The airport was still very strict, though they didn't hassle my 4 year old who only wore one when we went through security. They did however hassle my 9 year old.

We had 4 hours of baseball in Taylorsville this weekend and SL County sent out some ridiculous rules that all coaches and players need to be masked, even in the field. Imagine how stupid you have to be to think you need the 9 year old's on the baseball field to be in masks. But after 5 hours at the park and not seeing one mask, I think the citizenry are all giving a big middle finger to the lunatics in charge. Good. The only way they will pull back is if we push back.
