Don't wear both earbuds on the trail

I don't want to shame this runner personally, but this is something I often encounter on the trail, by hikers, runners and bikers alike. It's great to listen to music if you like, and earbuds are probably better than a loud speaker on the trail, but you've got to keep one ear open.

My other option is to scare the hell out of people by shouting loudly.

OK I've uploaded a new version with her face cropped out of the shot, I think I'll share this one publicly.

...and right behind him is some maniac on an ATV with a snowplow on the front of it.

Amen!! I don't wear ear buds as I quite enjoy the sound of silence and nature but ya'll still scare the stuffing out of me when you come whizzing down the trail on your bikes.

I've got maybe 4 other clips like this, uphill and downhill. If I post on Facebook, somebody would be recognized and feel called out, but that's not what I want. The point needs to be known though. Maybe I'll post it. I'll see if I can block out her face first.

I always ring a small bell but ear buds can never hear it.... so... When I encounter ear buds I just ride up behind them and scream "Hey!" and watch them shit their pants.... and then I laugh and laugh... Beech is a much nicer person then I.

A woman I work with went out for an in between Conference session hike a couple years ago and was hit by someone on a mtn bike.

She was off work for 4 or 5 months and still has lingering issues that she may not ever fully recover from.

    Please be careful out there.

Yikes, head on collision I assume. The hiker definitely had the right of way, did she happen to sue the biker? That would be a legit case.

I represented a jogger that got plowed into by a couple riding their mountain bikes side-by-side on a paved trail. My client ended up with a lot of money...
