Family trip to the Bonneville Salt Flats
We've been seeing other friends visit the Salt Flats on social media so we decided to break out of quarantine and head out. I thought Sunday evening would be the least crowded, those who do work would want to be home at a decent time. But I don't know if that plan backfired, or it really was a lesser crowd than Saturdays, there were probably 40 other vehicles. Fortunately you can get away from them.
The bulk of them pulled off of the first turnout from the freeway, a Rest Area type of spot where you can drive out, there are restrooms and such. But it's sort of enclosed by a big dirt bank, maybe 5 square miles or so. If you really want to get to the BIG wide open salt flats, stay on the freeway and pull off at the official Bonneville Speedway exit, there's a Sinclair station there, it's past the enclosed dirt bank that traps the other vehicles.
Then we only saw about 15 vehicles LOL. But you can really put some distance out there so you're alone.
Of course we had to stop at the Tree of Utah so the kids could see it for the first time.
