Best time, places to visit and see/do? New Zealand trek primarily to see the Lord of the Rings sights and awesome scenery.

Gold Coast Aus... Great Barrier Reef, etc... I spent my teenage years living in OZ. Surfed a lot in NZ - but North Island... your LOTR tour will be south Island. Bngee jumping and other adrenaline sports have some havens down there if your are so inclined.

South Island NZ: rent an aircraft with a pilot (a little aircraft, like a C182) and fly through the mountains. It's like Alaska.

Aus: do the same: rent an aircraft and fly down the east coast. Video below is twelve of us from the UK who rented six C172 aircraft for a three-week trip flying down the east Queensland coast.
