Proper Riding Attire
Now that I have a decent mountain bike, I'm looking forward to hitting some trails around my house. But as I get out more often I'm noticing that most folks who bike frequently have a particular outfit that involves much more Spandex and Lycra than I'm comfortable with.
Do I really have to go out and purchase a Spandex costume just to ride my bike? Most of those outfits are heavy on the neon colors, and quite honestly look straight outta the 1980's. So what do you wear when you ride? It's only "science" if it supports the narrative.

I've been riding with this jersey lately and love it on the warm to hot temp days. I think it looks cool and you won't look like a dork running into a C-store or food joint post-ride. I also just bought these baggies to ride with over spandex padded bib shorts. Love them.
I have the orange and blue colored ones.

I've never worn spandex.
Gym / basketball shorts and gym shirt. I wear old basketball / hiking shoes too. I'm kind of the anti trend for biking clothing.
I'm just in it to have fun, to be comfortable, and to focus on the ride not the appearance.
Some of these guys that have all the new gear and new clothes are only making it to the trails twice a year, so they've got all of that gear prepped and ready. I wouldn't stress out about it too much. Go out on a few rides and make little notes of what you'd like to bring next time.

Proper Riding Attire
I’ve never had a desire to look like I was on the gymnastics team and those are usually the first people who I pass on an long uphill or downhill run wearing my AC/DC shirt.

For the most part I don't notice and don't care what others are wearing. I ride with what's comfortable and functional. Also, the older I get the more padding I need- butt and hands.

Bring it bitch... I wear full race kit, but than again I'm also kind of a bad ass that you don't want to race unless you like getting your ass kicked by your grandpa.
I can't stand riding without proper kit. It's very functional and every item has a reason to exist, which is why it's worn. And I could really careless what others think I look like.

Just ask Scott, last night I brought these excellent gloves, they had hard plastic armor over the knuckles, and I left them on top of my vehicle by accident.
I would have liked a long sleeve last night too. Getting whipped by wet brush branches can get painful after a while.

Something else you might want to do is download the Strava app to your smartphone and then join Bogley on Strava. By doing that you can see what all the other Bogley MTB riders are doing. It's kind of entertaining to see what everyone else around here is riding.

Oh man I'm just a n00b at this point. I'd be the laughing stock of the Strava world. Gimme some time to gauge myself and build up my legs and then I'll join your little circle-jerk.
