Every police department in Cook County just gave the State's attorney a "no confidence" vote.

Chicago’s newly elected (this week) mayor is putting pressure on KF for more justification for dropping charges.

The prosecutors from across Illinois have rejected the plea deal. From the Illinois Prosecutors Bar Association:
"The manner in which this case was dismissed was abnormal and unfamiliar to those who practice law in criminal courthouses across the State. Prosecutors, defense attorneys, and judges alike do not recognize the arrangement Mr. Smollett received. Even more problematic, the State’s Attorney and her representatives have fundamentally misled the public on the law and circumstances surrounding the dismissal."
The rest of the statement is justifiably harsh.

Scott, what's going to happen? Can they still bring charges against Smollett?

From the statement:
"Prosecutors must be held to the highest standard of legal ethics in the pursuit of justice. The actions of the Cook County State’s Attorney have fallen woefully short of this expectation. Through the repeated misleading and deceptive statements to the public on Illinois law and circumstances surrounding the Smollett dismissal, the State’s Attorney has failed in her most fundamental ethical obligations to the public. The IPBA condemns these actions. This irregular arrangement was an affront to prosecutors across the State, the Chicago Police Department, victims of hate crimes, and the people of the City of Chicago and Cook County. "
So? Now what? The IPBA comes out with a bunch of legal-eze condemning the outcome and then that's it? Is there going to be action taken against Kim Foxx, or will the Illinois Prosecutors Bar Association be content with wearing egg on their faces forever after this incident because Smollett has friends in high places and so justice be damned?
It's only "science" if it supports the narrative.

I do not know Illinois law, but where the case was dismissed it seems unlikely. Prosecutors can't overstep their jurisdiction and if Kim Foxx is the decision maker for that particular jurisdiction then it seems like a done deal. Also, I don't know how the dismissal was done. The file is sealed so fast and without notice so no one can see how it was done. In Utah, if the charges were dismissed "without prejudice" they could be refiled. If they were dismissed "with prejudice" then it is over. The only real charges that could be viable, it seems, that would be outside of the scope of Ms. Foxx, would be if the feds could come up with some federal charges. That, obviously, is a different jurisdiction.
