Ten US Airmen in England, WWII

Today there was a fly-past in Sheffield, UK, over the site where ten US Airmen perished in their B17 "Mi Amigo" during a training mission in the war.



An 8-year-old boy witnessed the crash, and has since then lovingly tended the memorial where they are remembered. So he's an old man now, and has always wanted a fly-past for them.

Today it happened, by both the USAF and the RAF.





That young boy (now an old man) is called Tony Foulds, took care of the memorial for all this time.




Today he saw his life's ambition come to happen

There were Ospreys and F35s Hercules and all-sorts. It brought a tear to my eye.

I just finished a very detailed book about the European Theater...those B-17s weren’t very reliable, especially the early ones.

I’m onto a book about the Battle of Britain now. Non fiction history is the only reading that interests me these days. God bless Mr. Foulds.

If you haven't read it, you should check out The Last Ridge. It's a really well written account of the 10th Mountain Division in WW2.

Not to steal this threads thunder but the 2 part Series on History Channel, President at War was really good. I think you can stream it for free.

Presidents at War was interesting and worth watching, but I'd call it more of a rah-rah feel good cheerleading series more then anything else.

The two parts series is available for streaming on demand on Direct TV.

If you want to read something brutally honest about WWII read the recently published books D Day Trough German Eyes. It's a real eye opener.
