    Pole Canyon Fire

This is getting too close for comfort. Pics are looking up Payson Canyon with Elk Ridge in the direct path if advancing flames. Flames appear to be either close to or over Maple Dell Scout Camp.

Soooo...arson? Cuz there damn sure hasn't been any lightning around here lately.
It's only "science" if it supports the narrative.

I could see the smoke from my kids school today in Salt Lake. Hopefully this doesn’t get anymore devastating.

KSL stated that it was started by lightening. ..on Sept 6th! But they chose to let it burn itself out.

What is irratating as hell is that I have yet to see any air craft flying over dropping retardant /water. Nothing except Chopper 5.

So, they decided to let it burn out and now it's threatening to burn up a bunch of homes.

    Good plan.

My friend just posted that she and her family have to evacuate. My heart goes out to her and all of the people threatened by this fire. We need some of Florence to head over this way!

I could see the smoke cloud from Roy. At first I thought is was just a Thunderhead build up but then had a WTF it's not supposed to even be cloudy.
Best wishes for those in the path.

Uh oh, somebody's gonna get publicly slammed for not taking action earlier on this.

Is this another area that was not managed as it should have been, leaving dead wood build up all over the place?

Sun is up now, I'm sure the south winds will be picking up again soon. Will be interesting to see what happens in the next 12 hours.

Salem Hills HS had a big ceremony planned to honor vets with a free dinner and recognition with the Gov stopping by for a visit before the football game against Corner Canyon. That's all been canceled. The HS parking lot looks like an RV park.

Pole Creek, Uintah-Wasatch-Cache NF. IMT 1 (Lund) mobilizing. Twelve miles northeast of Nephi, UT. Timberand brush. Extreme fire behavior with wind-driven runs, running and long-range spotting. Structuresthreatened. Evacuations, road, area and trail closures in effect
Looks like there will be some help on the way today.

A local legend is in jeopardy of burning.

I first heard of "The Big Tree" when I moved to Salem 15 years ago, but didn't have an opportunity to see it until this past June.

The Big Tree is considered to be the largest White Fir in North America and would be a tragedy if this irreplaceable landmark were lost.

I can now see the smoke from my house in Sugarhouse and the way my Ben McAdam's signs are flopping in the wind I'm hoping this doesn't go very very badly today and into tomorrow. This isn't good.

For any scouters, it looks like they have saved, for now, Camp Maple Dell according to the map. It would be a shame if that camp went up in flames. I have a lot of good memories there.
