The Colorful Great Salt Lake
I just got back from Promontory Point this morning, I've been trying to get out to shoot the contrast between red and blue salt water for a couple of years now. I've got some killer photos and video that I'm excited to dig into right now, I'll just post up a couple of shots for now.
Here is a clip shot with a polarized lens that helps with the color, and some post coloring but not a crazy amount:
These photos are straight from the camera, no color editing.
Stay tuned

I'm really diggin' these photos and videos you're putting up. Not bad for a guy that doesn't make any friggin' sense otherwise...right?
Suddenly my feet are feet of mud
It all goes slo-mo
I don't know why I am crying
Am I suspended in Gaffa?

^^^Is this where all that "Himalayan" pink sea salt comes from? Or is it really imported from Nepal as the label claims?
It's only "science" if it supports the narrative.

LOL I've got some stuck to my Highlander I'll sell you at a discount.
It says "Himalayan Pink Salt comes from the heart of the..... " but I wouldn't doubt they found a loophole to say "And it also comes from the Great Salt Lake, like this container here". But they ran out of room on the label.
But yeah, I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived out there and saw the red water. After that long drive I was hoping it wasn't just a certain time of year or certain salinity.
It's one of those cool sights, and the red water covers more area than most cities, but nobody knows about it. I was in the middle of nowhere, alone. I didn't shut my vehicle off the whole time, just in case it wouldn't start up again. No cell service out there, nobody else driving by except for that train.

"It's really a shame what they've done to that lake. What did they think was gonna happen if the entire thing was cut in two by a gigantic dike!!"
People are such morans. It's only "science" if it supports the narrative.

Actually the causeway was put in place long before we worried about such things as environmental impact or understood the effects the causeway would have.
The causeway was designed with breaks to allow the lake levels to equalize, at the time they thought that was all that would be required. FWIW the Lucin Cutoff went into use in 1904.
