Digital Avalanche Transceiver
A friend of mine (from the Salt Lake Area) is climbing Mount Rainier this weekend and looking to borrow or rent a digital avalanche transceiver. He said he is looking for a "digital avalanche transceiver (457 mHz)" to be exact. Anyone have one or any leads on renting one?

U of U outdoor program might? Maybe call some of the ski resorts and see if any of the ski patrol working the summer may have one to lend / rent.
Even the new digital ones take practice. Not quite as easy as plug and go.
Best of luck on Rainier.

Depending on a piece of burrowed/rented life saving gear and not really having the time to play with it, test it and understand its intricacies seems like a recipe for disaster to me... but what the hell do I know.
Commonsense isn't nearly as common as you would think it is.

Worst case it will make finding his body easier But he won't be much help to anyone else that need help.

This time of year the snowpack.on Ranier is pretty consolidated. Even if they were doing some Liberty Ridge or west face routes there shouldn't be much avalanch danger if at all. Not having his own gear, I would think he is heading up the Cleaver-Little Tahoma route... the "goat trail"... along with many other folks.

Yes pretty typical late July conditions. Maybe it was recommended by his companions. Again easier to find his body.
