What to do at Island Park and Yellowstone National Park?

Hey gang, we are headed up again to stay at Island Park and visit Yellowstone in a couple of weeks, we are looking for some ideas, things to see, some hikes, attractions that you've enjoyed.

We will be floating Henry's Fork river again, I'd say that's a must while at Island Park :

And of course each of the drive -to attractions in Yellowstone.

But maybe we could do some hikes this time, we'll have young kids so 3 to 4 miles, if any longer we'd have to really plan half the day, a meal and such.

I've also been to the wildlife exhibit in West Yellowstone, it's decent if you had bad luck seeing real wildlife while driving around.

Any suggestions, even near Island Park and the lake, maybe some cool trails in the perimeter?

    Thanks

Out of Warm Springs camp ground near Ashton there is a section of old trail bed that you can hike or ride a bike up to an old rail road tunnel.

You could go see Upper Mesa Falls then keep going to Warm Springs and hike up that trail. Also if you like to float they do a lot of that on Warm Springs as well. All the way to hwy 20. You would need to set up a shuttle for that.

How far away from Island Park would you drive for a hike?

Darby Wind Cave is a good hike that is over in Driggs.

If you want to soak there is Heise Hot Springs swimpool and soaking pools plus they have zipline or Green Canyon. Heise is close to Idaho Falls and Green Canyon is near Tetonia. Or from Island Park drive up 87 the road that skirts Henry's to 287 another hot spring called Norris.

If you only have a day in Yellowstone, if it's hot I'd hang out at the Firehole River. You could drive over to the Old Faithful area easy enough and let the kids see that.

I camped for almost two weeks in there back in '98 and it was wonderful. A week at least camped in the park is really the way to see it. Too much driving for one day otherwise.

Have you ever been to Boiling River hotsprings? Those are really nice!
