    3/31/18 - Subway

I took a coworker of mine and her sister through the Subway yesterday and I would say it is in great water conditions!

About a hundred yards before Keyhole Falls is a recently formed quicksand trap (actually about two years ago) but that area is trapping more and more sand. Unfortunately from that point on ward, the Subway has returned kinda to the “sandway” conditions. Not excessive amounts of sand but definitely noticeable and will knock down some of the subways splendor a notch. But nonetheless, a great time!

Russel gulch has garden-hose water strength going into it at the entrance point. The 1st pool you encounter via the standard approach is just dripping, but Das Boot is flowing quite good. 3 CFS? Maybe 4 or 5?

Once you past the 1st plungepool, it’s flowing all the way through the canyon.

We all wore 3mm wetsuits and booties and surprisingly were quite okay. Never chilled for more than 20mins. The 80 degree air temps were great!

I’ll let the pictures talk for themselves now...

Ya good stuff! I was quite surprised too with how everyone was quite the trooper and kept the pace the entire time.

Both of these ladies run and are active in the outdoors (they are beginners when it comes to canyoneering) and so I think that definitely helped with the endurance, especially after mile 6 or 7...
