That's funny. In the case of my daughter it's also true. She had a really bad boyfriend who abused her, both physically and mentally. When she finally got the courage to leave, he threatened to kill her (and me and my wife). She had to get a restraining order. She was also a concealed carrier and had trained a lot. After not owning a firearm for several years I went out and bought one, too.

My step sister also had a crazy ex boyfriend which caused the family to arm up. He would stalk her to the point it was really scary. The restraining order did nothing to slow him down.
