And now, Walmart joins the PC crowd by caving to their employees pending protest and claiming to just want to help.

For the sake of argument, let's assume all guns are outlawed all across the board....handguns, assault rifles, everything. But the mass shootings continue with outlawed guns.

What then? Who can the lefties blame then?
It's only "science" if it supports the narrative.

It's not blame they seek, rather unfettered control.

it is impossible to rule over and control an armed society.

(Gasp). Are you guys aware of the dreaded gun law loophole, that allowed a restricted person to buy an AR from a private seller, and then go on to commit a mass shooting? If only we required ALL gun sales to require a background check (gun registration), we could stop all of this madness.

Has anyone ever sold a firearm in a private sale and wondered what is going to happen after it walks out your door?

I always require at least a valid Utah Drivers Licence, prefer that the buyer have a valid Utah Concealed Carry permit, over 21, and buyer must sign a bill of sale with the buyers address on it. I've had a few sales go south when I asked them for their address which was fine with me. But, still I wonder if whatever I just sold is going to be on the news someday and investigators knocking on my door.

For that reason, I would actually like the ability to conduct a background check on buyers.

So, if the lawmakers "have to do something" they should do it right the first time. The Utah Shooting Sports Council had a solution that I believe would protect buyers and sellers and I support. They suggest that the local police departments be required to conduct background checks at the station for NO charge. And since the buyer is right there, if the person knowingly tries to purchase a firearm illegally, they could conveniently be arrested and prosecuted...unlike the current method of just walking out the door. No reason Unified Police or Sandy Police couldn't rent a table at the gun shows and do the same thing. Goodbye dreaded "Gun Show Loophole".

I do realize that this could potentially be just another stepping stone to tighter gun laws when it doesn't curb violence, but if they "have to do something" I think this makes the most sense.

    What do y'all think?

It's the proviso which kills it for me. We know what they want in the end. But a more basic issue is this: why does a private sale need to go through a govt office? It's a constitutional right.

With all the gun control talk I have yet to hear one poloticition say how they are going to take guns away from criminals, they only say how they are going to take them away from law abiding citizens.

Sandstone, in reading about how the Odessa shooter had failed a background check at an FFL, and then went to buy a rifle through a private, this very circumstance went through my mind. If victims’ families are trying to go after gun manufacturers who produced the guns that were used in these shootings, then it won’t be long til they go after whoever sold or otherwise produced the gun to the perp. What protection is there for a private gun seller if the gun they sell is then used in an illegal act?

i completely, categorically object to any kind of registers. It just opens the doors to even more tyranny, corruption, abuse, etc. I think, instead that we need stated protection that private gun sellers can’t be prosecuted or sued if they don’t reasonably have knowledge of the background, mental condition, or mindset of the person to which they sold their guns to.

It it almost makes you question, with the potential liability and issues, is it really worth the risk of selling a gun for the few hundred $ you’ll get for the potential of having your entire life turned upside down if that person then commits a crime with it?

I know now that there is insurance companies that specialize in protecting and representing you as a ccw carrier if you’re involved in a self pretection incident. Would they cover you also in a situation like this where the gun you sold someone was used to commit a crime?

    stupid facts...

Four years after allowing universal ‘concealed carry’ law, Maine rated the safest state in the nation for crime

Since 2015, residents of the state of Maine have been allowed to carry a concealed firearm without any special permit, and now the results are in: crime has fallen to the point where the state is now rated the safest in the nation from the threat of crime. The Maine Examiner reports:
When Maine passed a “Constitutional Carry” law allowing Maine residents to carry a concealed firearm without any special permit in 2015, opponents of the law forecast a dangerous future for the state. They said the new law would hurt public safety and put Maine kids at risk.
One state representative who opposed the bill went so far as to say it would give Mainers a reason to be afraid every time they went out in public or to work.
Another state representative suggested the law would lead to violent criminals with recent arrests and convictions legally carrying handguns.
They were wrong, as wrong as the San Francisco Board of Supervisors labeling the NRA a “terrorist organization.” And for the same reason, the notion that a physical object, not human beings, causes evil. The US News &World Report rankings of the safest states has named Maine as the safest state in the nation.
