Mexico posts highest homicide rate in decades
MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexico posted its highest homicide rate in decades, with the government reporting Sunday there were 29,168 murders in 2017.
The number is the highest since comparable records began being kept in 1997 and is also higher than the peak year of Mexico's drug war in 2011, when there were 27,213 murders.

Yeah I read that too. Shocking to think that Mexico's murder rate of 27 is less than half of Venezuela's and El Salvador's murder rates of around 60 per 100,000.

Gun control advocates laugh and ridicule the old saying that "when guns are outlawed, only the outlaws will have guns"...looks like this is the textbook example right there.

Guns are not outlawed in Mexico. Private citizens are allowed to own guns in Mexico and it is part of their Constitution (right to bear arms). They have similar debates concerning gun control as we do, though their gun laws are certainly more strict there (especially in recent decades). You aren't allowed to open carry for example. You are also limited to 10 guns per person.
This isn't meant to be a statement for or against gun control, but only to clarify that guns are not outlawed in Mexico (if that is what you are implying).
Anyway, yes it's sad about the murder rate in Mexico and Latin America in general.Utah is a very special and unique place. There is no where else like it on earth. Please take care of it and keep the remaining wild areas in pristine condition. The world will be a better place if you do.

For just about all practical purposes private citizens are outlawed from firearms in Mexico. They are allowed to process a gun in there residence, but they are not allowed to open or conceal carry outside of their home. There are also severe limitations on types of firearms, calibers and ammunition.
Anyhoo... Mexico's gun laws are extremely strict, at least compared to the US.

Czech Republic (though gun ownership is very rare there)

Places like Canada and Mexico do have conceal carry licences, but they are very hard to obtain.
As far as I know, there are no other countries that have less strict gun laws than the US. Even though they are far stricter than laws in the US, Mexico's gun laws would be considered lax when it comes to most of the world.
Some people point to Switzerland, and though gun ownership is high there and while the Swiss Militia requires men to keep and maintain a weapon, the ammunition is stored in the armory. Swiss gun laws are still far stricter than they are in the US, even though they would be considered lax in Europe. Still, if your kid likes to shoot, it is a good place to take him or her. Kids can shoot government subsidized ammunition at the firing ranges.Utah is a very special and unique place. There is no where else like it on earth. The interesting thing about Mexico is their Article 10 originally began life as an exact copy of our 2nd Amendment an served the exact same purpose in their constitution until it was eventually neutered.
This is a great example of what US gun owners fear if the gun grabbers are allowed to change our laws.

I'm really disappointed... I just got back from Mexico and I didn't get to see even one drug cartel shootout. Just a bunch of hard working Mexicans making my vacation enjoyable.
