Interesting article in Forbes on the collapse of a social state... aka California. Talk about a runaway train heading for a cliff....

You know, somewhere in Europe, social media posts are going around about School Teachers here in the U.S., how they get great healthcare and get the summer months off, and how Europe's employers should be more like the United States. And here, we're spreading the same crap about some odd job over in Norway that gets a few months off in the summer and we're all thinking that America should follow Europe's job model.

I was mostly pointing out the hilarity of how the current sitting president would actually think Scandinavian immigration would some how be on the uptick or maybe we could get it on the uptick. FYI, I dated a teacher for a year, she tutored over the summer to make extra money.

Starting pay for Utah teachers is approximately $40k depending on district, most make more, they get every pothole in the calendar off, they get good healthcare at a ridiculously low rates (1/10th what I pay for better insurance), paid personal days, their higher/continuing education is paid for, and best of all they get all that for working 9 months of the year. That's more than crumbs in many people's book....

Every single person I know works extra, overtime, weekends, yada, yada, to earn the extra things they desire in life.

So what's the point you're trying to make?!?

The results are indeed that simple.

What transpires in the form of government and that governments restraints, or interactions, on capitalism, indeed are not simple.(less government=more capitalism)

Having a constitutional Republic, works hand in hand with capitalism.

Socialism is the antithesis of capitalism as shown in the meme.

Los Angeles legalized homelessness and then subsidized it and spread it around. The trash and waste bred rats, fleas and diseases.

And now, for the first time, it's coming home. Not to the homeowners and business owners who have been living with this nightmare. But to Los Angeles City Hall, which has its own homeless encampments.

I've come to realize the media is right about Trump being racist and that's the reason for the wall. If it were really about protecting Americans, he'd be building it around California.

San Francisco has more drug addicts than it has students enrolled in its public high schools, the city Health Department’s latest estimates conclude.

There are about 24,500 injection drug users in San Francisco — that’s about 8,500 more people than the nearly 16,000 students enrolled in San Francisco Unified School District’s 15 high schools and illustrates the scope of the problem on the city’s streets…

and then, the east coast socialist

ALBANY — Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo on Monday announced a dramatic drop in state income tax revenue of $2.8 billion, which he says will prompt him to revise his 2019-20 budget and reconsider spending on schools, health care and repairs to roads and bridges.

Cuomo, a Democrat, blamed the shortfall on a federal tax plan backed by Republican President Donald Trump. Cuomo said the law's cap on deductions for state and local taxes at $10,000 was to blame and suggested it is, anecdotally, triggering high-earners to leave New York.

“At this point there is no doubt that the budget we put forward is not supported by the revenues,” Cuomo said at a State Capitol news conference. “It’s as serious as a heart attack.”

Serious question.... San Francisco has established safe illegal drug injection sites around the city... isn't that like having a designated drunk driver lane on the highway?

    Asking for a friend....

Forget Frisco...I’m in Hilo, Hawaii right now and the homeless are so thick you have to virtually step over them. The “touristy area” smells like piss.

My last time here was 4 years ago and it’s shockingly worse. After this storm blows thru I’ll get my ass back to the Kona side where the rich folks are.
Suddenly my feet are feet of mud
    It all goes slo-mo
    I don't know why I am crying
    Am I suspended in Gaffa?

Don't forget paid sick days that roll over every year (as long as you stay in the same district). A few of my coworkers have accumulated months of paid sick leave simply by staying in the same district every year.

If you decide to go the administrator route you'll start pulling $91k a year. Obviously there's a lot of extra duties and crap that goes along with that extra 50k. But still, that's on par with what a doctor makes without the massive student debt and 10+ years of extra schooling.

AND there are scholarship and loan programs out there (especially in Utah) that will PAY FOR your bachelor's in any subject as long as you teach in a Title 1 (low-performing) school for three or so years. On top of that, at those Title 1 schools there are extra incentives to teachers to show student growth that can result in a $2k bonus. There are extra bonus scholarships if you're going into a STEM subject and/or you're a woman going into STEM.

My only issue with teaching is the fact that they try to cram 40 kids (my biggest class, but not by much) into a room that has room for 32 desks. Trying to get 40 sixth graders in the last period of the day to do anything is like herding cats.
Just 'cause it zips, don't mean it fits
