Thread: The Bogley Weather Report

We went canyoneering over the weekend. It snowed a few flakes today, but that's it. The big problem was the wind. We got blasted with sand and dust the last two days.

At home, we got dumped on with snow. I'm supposed to drive to Loveland tonight, starting at 3 am and have to cross three mountain passes. The roads aren't plowed at night. It could be an "interesting" drive.
Utah is a very special and unique place. There is no where else like it on earth. Please take care of it and keep the remaining wild areas in pristine condition. The world will be a better place if you do.

It is a good snowstorm, but snowpack is still way behind, especially down south.

    Ogden got a whopping 1.5 inches. Yep - one...point...five.

Was able to clear the snow off my driveway with a whisk broom.

    Ridiculous.

The snow appears to be falling in a specific region of the Wasatch front. Seems like all areas southeast of the Great Salt Lake are getting pretty decent totals whereas Ogden is lagging behind the curve. I can count on one hand how many inches of snow we've received all winter.

See, that's just weird. Because as I type this, I'm riding Frontrunner under clear skies.

We got about 8" at our house here in Pleasant Grove. By far the most we've received all season. My daughter came up from med school in California for the holiday weekend. She brought a roommate who basically has never seen snow up close before. We took her up AF Canyon yesterday and she just kept giggling like a little school girl!
    Are we there yet?

Officially -20 in Craig this morning; it was -26 ar my house. This was the coldest temperature of the winter so far.

Thus far since living here, we have never had a year that didn't drop at least into the -20's. I thought that there might be a chance this year, but this morning changed that.

Seems like all areas southeast of the Great Salt Lake are getting pretty decent totals whereas Ogden is lagging behind the curve. I can count on one hand how many inches of snow we've received all winter.
I'm not sure if this is a reason, but I do wonder if it is at least partially due to the fact that the Great Salt Lake is nearly the smallest that it has been in historic times. In theory, that should make the areas hit by the lake effect much smaller as well. The surface area of the lake right now is less than 1/3 of the size it was in the 1980's.

I never hear meteorologists talk about it, but imagine the effect to climate in the region if the lake dried up and there was no more lake effect. The lake isn't very deep, so after a prolonged severe drought, it actually could dry up.

A few days late on this one, but crazy weather nonetheless.

These started to come up in late December.

Ogden got two inches. The sum of all the storms over the last week has resulted in about 3 - 4 inches in my yard.

    It's a start...

We're probably close to 16" on the ground here in South Jordan. Overnight, we got another .5" or so.

About 16 inches on the level and still snowing. Shoveled the driveway, went inside to put my church clothes on, came back out to 2 inches on the driveway already. Did make it to church just in time for them to announce that after the first half of sacrament meeting we were going home.

    I AM feeling left out.

Only a skiff of snow (less than 1/16th of an inch) fell on my driveway -- again.

    This is bullshit
