    Vandalism at Delicate Arch?

We've seen times where photographers lit fires under the arch for the perfect shot, but left burn marks. We remember when the arch baggers rappel from Delicate Arch and leave rope grooves. Does this night time photography trend fit the mold of vandalism?

The post and photo has since been taken offline

It's definitely not the only one, and I'm sure these other photographers will scramble to take their own versions offline soon

A note from Arches National Park:

Arches National Park Thanks everybody for your comments and passion for national parks. We've informed our rangers about this post. Fires in the park are only permitted in established fire rings and grills attached to picnicking or camping areas. Any other use of fire, fireworks, or other similar activities is prohibited.

Also because shining lights on rock formations disturbs other people who may be stargazing or who not want lights in their photographs, we discourage light painting in the park. (cw)

It's one thing to vandalize for the sake of a really cool photo. But in this case, fireworks under the arch look completely idiotic. Who's lame idea was this?
It's only "science" if it supports the narrative.

Stupid. Many people would argue the sparkler is a minimally impactful use of a "firework", but if every moron who wanted a picture like this brought their sparklers up there, it would be a mess. Painting with light can be done with simple flashlights or other light emitting devices; it's not necessary to spoil the beauty with that crap. The photos by themselves without the sparkler would be fantastic.

Just for some clarification, it was burning steel wool rather than a sparkler.
Utah is a very special and unique place. There is no where else like it on earth. Please take care of it and keep the remaining wild areas in pristine condition. The world will be a better place if you do.

No, it wasn't me. The photographer came forward on one of the FB threads and said that it was steel wool.

    Unfortunately that's not nearly enough.
