Epic Blarney - 09/24/2017
Epic Blarney (both forks) 09/24/2017
Epic Blarney, the route Tom Jones describes at canyoneeringUSA.com and located in the Leprechaun area of North Wash follows a path
that ascends the right (east) fork of Blarney and descends the more technical left (west) fork.
This was for us, a great half day outing, 5 1/2 hours car to car, in beautiful fall weather.
The climb up of the east fork has just enough climbing obstacles like choke stones, slanted hallways and smooth/fluted pour-offs to keep it interesting and challenging
but doable with some partner assists here and there. There was a knotted handline at the 15-foot crux climb that was helpful but not necessary.
The canyon was completely dry, water and mud would make this up climb much more difficult with all of the smooth walls. Friction climbing is the key in this fork.
And the rabbit hole downclimb in the west fork is a real hoot.
Thanks to my canyoneering partners Jessica, Alijeh, Jeremy, Carl and Lorin who took some great photos
