Fire Started from Shooting a .50 cal Above Alpine?

Of all the places to go fire off your .50 cal, why would you do it here? Admittedly, I've shot here. Once. That was enough for me. I got invited by a friend who lives near there and I went. There is a short section of fence which demarcates the boundaries of Alpine City and US Forest Service land. You park at the end of the rugged Alpine City dirt road and once you walk through the man-width opening in the fence you are then on Forest Service land. You shoot uphill. 200 yards out is about the max before you're shooting way, way up the mountainside. Small caliber stuff, fine. A .50 cal though? Here? I don't get it.
