    Gunlock Falls Update

    Saturday, June 17, 2017

An exhaustive internet search trying to find a reliable report on the current conditions at Gunlock turned up nothing. So I loaded up the family and endeavoured to check it out myself.

The lake is VERY HIGH. But still lacks about 12 inches to spill over the concrete barrier separating the lake from the dry falls. It doesn't look like it has spilled this year yet, and it's doubtful that it will now that runoff season is winding down. Hopefully the lake levels will remain reasonably high and we get another good winter so that maybe it will flow next year.

Regardless, it made for a great day of splashing and swimming around, especially since the outside temps hit 105 degrees today!!

Looking east towards the boat docks. This little inlet was dry last time I was here. Now it's completely full.

Close!! The water creeps right up and touches the concrete barrier.

The poor pupper was dying in the 105 degree heat, so we threw her in too.

    Bummer.... so close this year.

Very impressive, considering it was near empty.

If it remains 1/2 to 3/4 full and we have another normal snow year, then in 2018 it should be oveflowing.

Glad you got out though and enjoyed the cool water! Was it crowded??

Yeah it was kind of a bummer to see it get so close and not spill. The reservoir was not very busy at all. There was a modest amount of people out enjoying the lake, but no where near what I'd consider crowded. Only a handful of boats on the water, and we shared the shore with maybe one or two other small families, spaced pretty far apart. We all took turns "cliff diving" into the lake, and splashing around in the very cold waters. Felt great in the 100 degree temps. Within five minutes of exiting the water you'd be dry again.
