    Kiddie Canyoneering 3/10 - 3/12

Friday evening we set off to Sandthrax campground to rendezvous with Scott Matthys and his family. Saturday morning we woke up & set off to Blarney Left fork with a group of 12 people that included 4 young kids ranging from ages 3 to 10 years old.

My daughter Jena on the 1st mandatory rappel Age 9.

Even got my mom on this canyon, a beginner, making her way down R1.

Start of the slot making our way down the 1st down climb.

R2 - we decided to lower the kids over the top of the boulder with a adult at the bottom waiting to grab them & assist them on the rappel.

My son Nixon being lowered on R2.

Group traffic jam in Blarney canyon.

We found out that with kids you should double your time frame, and a ratio of 1 adult per child is wise. Time in canyon ~6 hours.

Saturday night we took a stroll down upper conundrum canyon.

Sunday morning half of our group left leaving us with 4 kids & 4 adults. We decided to do Leprechaun Right Fork with a shuttle to the top in attempt to save time & energy.

Scott lowering his son Taylor whole his wife Elisha coaches from the rim.

After my daughter got stuck on R1 i gad to tandem with her. Thankfully i had lots of help & willing people to assist. Elisha on tandem rappel with my 3 year old son Nixon.

Life is easier when you fit through the bottom of the canyon. Most of my stemming sections were easy walks for the kids.

Taylor on a guided down climb and lower.

Thinking skinny doesn't always make you skinny.

The walk of fame after completing the canyon

Time in canyon was ~ 6 hours. IMO I thought Blarney Left fork was easier with the kids. Blarney is wider allowing you to assist people better & the downclimbs were not as difficult. Overall a successful weekend.

Apologies to Scott. With Max allows leading the pack I didn't get any. Pictures of him. Please feel free to add your own pictures to the thread.

Great TR Dakota! What an enjoyable experience with our little ones. Can't wait to get out again, but next time we will give Max a backpack and weight it down with some rocks!
