Fellow visitors hiking the West Rim Trail found his body around 8:20 a.m. and called 911.
Park law enforcement responded to the call, and a search and rescue team recovered the man's body. Authorities report that the body had visible signs of trauma.
“We are extremely saddened by this incident and are concerned with everyone’s safety in the park,” said Jeff Bradybaugh, superintendent at Zion National Park in a news release.
The West Rim Trail was closed from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
The Washington County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident, and the victim has not yet been identified, pending family notification.
More information will be released as it is received.
