Heaps - how long is the rappel to bird perch?

How long is the rappel to the bird perch?

    Would a 150' rope suffice?

The 3 sites below state differen lengths:
    Bluugnome: 150'
    Climb UT: 140'
    Canyoneering USA: 165'

Sorry the Canyoneering USA site is not updated. Working on it.

With a 300 foot rope doubled, there is 5' to 10' extra, so 140 feet it is!!!

    Last trip we used

    120' on the first rap
    200' on the second rap
    300' on the third rap

tied them as pull cords as they were pulled down

We also found it easiest to leave one person at each anchor to help each later person down and sending the 300' rope down hanging from harness so person at the bird perch could just tie the rope off to the hangers, unclip it off the harness and drop it. No fumbling with trying to get packs on/off and stuff.

Makes all the transitions super easy.

We used the same. Tie the 120 to the 200 and lower down to pull at the bird perch. Then at the bird perch, tie the 120 to the 300 and pull and lower down to the ground.

helps having the radios, so there is communication on that rope adjustment.

Yes. 4 radios was awesome to have. At a minimum whistles with a pre determined code system

As was pointed out to me the first time I did it, it's best not to have your 300 foot rope be doubled up because, on the second to last rappel, the rope pull can sometimes get stuck. We risked it anyway and were fine, but the rope pull was difficult.

Thank you all. Used 150' rope and was just fine. And yes...2 way radio helps a lot.
