    Red Draw/Upper Eardley Canyon

Back on I-70 and looking for something I had not seen or an area I hadn't driven in the last few years. Off the interstate and the duck under, drive to find a campspot to try to get into Eardley canyon the next day. I drove one spur road that was closed at the wilderness boundary so turned around. Saw a cuter than cute antelope fawn maybe only a few hours old. The mother had bedded it down just by the road. Also saw a slowly dying burro, it looked skeletal and moved very slowly, it's hair dull and head down listless. Another healthy looking burro mirrored it's movements but about 20 feet away, as if in attendance. New life and ending life.
I drove out another road and car camped on a ridgeline, great views down into the canyon goal the next day. Lots of fire rings in the area, but overall looked very clean and lightly used.
Next day hiked to the rim, took a short sidecanyon but must be the canyoneering route, big pourover. Really liked the colorful sandstone in this area. Up and out, walked the rim and found a cairned route in, very well laid out in the breakdown of the slope. Now for wading muddy pools. Trekking poles really great here. The weather was bothering me a little, so I hiked as far as I liked and wanted to take pictures, then returned the way I came. Saw a little pink rattlesnake on the steep route out. Definitely a return place for me, in the future.
